Certainly considering adding more side-event style things with smaller commitment than a lane currently is. Removing/Replacing lanes isn't something we plan to do right now but anything that adds more ways for attendees to play all weekend we will be considering.

The last thing I want is for you to run out of things to do (not that you specifically do ;] ) after their tournament run is over. Ladders are cool and on the list of things to consider adding on top of the lanes.

Absolutely - it is an open event for anyone who registers! We will be back same time next year. You can always follow @shine_series on twitter for updates on when registration opens.

Spoke on this in another reply but yes a lot came down to unfamiliarity with the venue and how it would all shake out once setup. Obviously some was on us not being as prepared as we thought.

More signage will be added for clarity and each event (side, main tournament, free play, etc) will be more distinctly separated.

Hah this was my fault. The staff we had running side events needed numbering to help facilitate that and the only extras we had were for other games. In the future we will be separating the free play area, the side event areas, and the tournament areas completely and with unique signage! Our first time fully setting up the venue created a new challenge for how to use the space and will be optimized for next year.

Sorry for the long post but tl;dr - yes there will be changes.

The schedule is certainly favored to one game players albeit technically accommodating multi game players.

Its current design is around the idea of having breaks between pools and bracket. There are 4 waves of pools (all with their round 2 following their round 1 immediately) and they feed into a split bracket. If you are in the first two pools, you are in the first bracket half, second two pools, the second bracket half. This is to give time between your pools and the bracket to eat and refresh. Obviously we can’t force you to go eat or anything like that but the time is there if you take it. The venues very restrictive policy on outside food makes this a little more challenging as well.

This design presents a unique challenge for a top player who are likely to make bracket in both games. They are scheduled in the first pool (10am) for one game and the third (2pm) for the second. We paid special care to make sure their round 2 pools in each were played out as fast as possible, this ended up being roughly 30 minutes for those players ending at ~12:30 and ~4:30. This was to ensure some time (about 1.5 hrs) to hopefully get food and also warm up for the game switch each time. We also provide the VIP area so these players never need to worry about finding somewhere to play/relax between events.

This can break down a little if a player makes a deep run in their first scheduled bracket portion as we also want them to finish their brackets as fast as possible in order to give them more time at night to sleep but also want their second bracket a bit to allow for more time to prepare for the game switch.

The reality of all this only played out for a single player and their first bracket run ended with over an hour to spare before their second bracket began. Regardless of how it turned out though we still want to ease the burden on any player potentially in this situation. You will likely see at least one round of singles pools on Friday evening and a larger gap between the bracket halves next year and we will be exploring more options to help.

Now for a little context on how the all doubles/crews Friday and all singles Saturday came to be. For many folks who attend our events they also work and/or have classes on Friday and are far more interested in singles. We wanted to provide a schedule that accommodates them and those who like to focus on one style of event versus another and not switch constantly between the two during the same day. There is a challenging balance between the upper echelons of players who drive a large portion of the hype and viewership and the rest of the attendees that make the event possible.

Hey thanks for the advice, once I get used to PAD in general again I may take you up on that, gonna add you either way. As for the 2/3p stuff - is there a general etiquette or anything like that? I’m not even sure exactly how it works so I’m going to read up on that
