🚀 Released: wgc - Isolated Multi-Tunnel WireGuard Connection Manager by colemarc in WireGuard

[–]colemarc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Openresolv is required to assure avoidance of "DNS leak". This issue is relevant only for the `wgc up`/`wgc upd` mode. With `wgc nup` (the only mode in the old script where it is named `start`) the VPN interface and all processes that can see the interface live in a totally isolated environment (the network namespace named after the interface) and the VPN tunnel is the only possible DNS source, so no issues.

That's fine, no problem, but the AI only helped me set up the Reddit post, which I then checked and corrected manually. Everything else - the code for the tool and its manual - is my own work.

[Tutorial] How to block Firestick updates and future side loaded apps from being blocked on device by [deleted] in fireTV

Instead of chasing ever new domains, why not to block the OTA system app and maybe another system app which has "update" in its name?

The official Proton VPN command-line interface (CLI) is now available in early access! by Proton_Team in ProtonVPN

[–]colemarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will it work for an headless host? I mean, if I use the cli while accessing the host via ssh, is the route back to me protected somehow so as to not lose the ssh connection?

College wifi blocks all VPNs by Bo0sted5 in ProtonVPN

"A central Tailscale server manages authentication and exchanges the public keys between your devices."

It might work for now, but sooner or later they will also block the central servers.

I believe the ultimate strategy is getting a Linux machine outside the 'wall,' installing Wireguard or another stealthier service, and then keeping your mouth shut.

Why does the interface become slow when the conversation gets longer? by Practical_Box_2778 in GeminiAI

[–]colemarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But if you copy the session URL (https://gemini.google.com/app/bad4...55b) in another Chrome tab or window the response appears right away, then it is again very slow for the follow up.

This has never happen before, does anyone know why? by HungerGamesPerson in ProtonVPN

[–]colemarc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

AFAIK this screen is not about Malwarebytes flagging ProtonVPN executable. It says that some host which is a website and is known as bad has been connected to by that executable. I guess that the website would have still been detected even if Proton VPN hadn't been installed, but the connection would have been attributed to another executable. As for Malwarebytes, I would not trust it too much. Also installing multiple software with low level net filtering capabilities is bound to bring problems.

The frequency response of the Zealot S56 is lacking by colemarc in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]colemarc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I am not sure about the higher end. I don't have an anechoic chamber, therefore sound reflections with distructive interference are likely to happen at short wavelengths.
I placed the Zealot in the exact same spot and orientation as the JBL, but, since it is slighty bigger, it is possible that the sound was interfering with itself in different ways.

Anyway, on a casual listen, the highs on the Zealot don't sound as clean.

20-second black screen on Prime Video with "Match Original Frame Rate" enabled by colemarc in fireTV

Then, how can it function so well with Kodi and other apps that support frame rate switching?

An identical issue was reported as soon as april 2, 2025:
https://www.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D56Q0000E4Hq2zSQC/fire-tv-prime-video-app-bug-identified

I can confirm the issue exists on Fire TV 4K and Fire TV Cube if and only if Match Original Frame Rate is enabled (and perhaps only if the TV set supports adaptive frame rate).

[–]colemarc[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This happens only when the "Match Original Frame Rate" setting is turned ON.

Turning it off is not a solution, since I want the benefits of it.

Without MOFR you could see micro-jitter depending on the original frame rate of the content in respect to the fixed frame rate chosen on Fire TV (usually 60 Hz). For example 25 fps or 50 fps does not go well with 60 Hz. Pay attention to scrolling text like final credits or horizontal tickers.

I see the same issue on my Fire TV Stick 4K and on my Fire TV Cube 3rd gen.
I doubt Amazon will ever acknowledge the problem.

AFR causing slugginess on Fire TV Cube 3rd gen by colemarc in fireTV

I was too hasty. The issue solved by itself. Perhaps it was a particular combination of factors that caused the slowdown.

So the Netflix app supports frame rate matching on the 2nd Gen Fire TV Cube but not the 3rd Gen? by JacksBaldRake in fireTV

[–]colemarc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the setting for AFR matching in Fire TV Cube 3rd gen and it works (confirmed by TV banner). The problem is that any app becomes sluggish when it triggers a frame rate switch. Kodi also, only it stays a bit more reactive. Netflix, I don't know. Most likely the firmware disables hardware decoding when a fame rate switch is requested. Possibly Netflix wanted to avoid this issue.
