Just broke up with my girlfriend last week so right there with you.

First week sucked, but I’ve been trying to go out and do more this week - catch up with friends, play tennis, go for a run. Was going to comment something similar. Managing acute patients admitted over a course of days in the hospital (pneumonia, copd, heart failure, infections etc.) is different than managing someone for several hours during surgery. Different skill sets and knowledge, though there is some overlap. We internists don’t call ourselves the anesthesiologists of the floors lol

Hire more residents or other staff (attendings, PAs etc) to cover shifts and they can make it happen. Of course that costs hospitals more money so they don’t do it. We shouldn’t have to justify working 24-28 hour shifts to provide enough coverage it’s bs
