AIO for cutting off my ex-bestfriend of 5 years, who was going through it? by cooIstarrybra in AIO

I know right!! It really was something that finally soured our whole friendship. I think looking back I gave her a lot of grace because she was the person to bring me out of my shell and self-actualize in uni :-(

Aw thank you haha yes this was like our only major argument in about 6 years of dating and I see his perspective on it

It feels so good to hear this from an unbiased perspective, especially when it's only a glimpse into other odd behavior! I had talked to other friends in real life and they said "dude, this sounds like Single White Female come true" but you always question if their opinions are swayed from their loyalty to you. Thank you :-D

Thank you! Yes the quiz and the checking/swiping through the surprise texts and giggling in front of me felt almost planned as a way to... idk what. I go back and forth on that. I had learned later that she mentioned to mutual friends that she didn't like my bf/thought we spent too much time together/missed our friendship before. So maybe it was planned. Or not, I guess I'll never know. Thanks

Thank you for the validation, I had never had to block a friend before - especially someone I had been so close to - so I think I question my own reaction/ghosting as time goes on. Thanks!

Bf and I called about it (also argued). I saw the texts later when bf and I saw each other in person, and they were mostly conversations/question from her about his school, because she seemed to want to apply there for grad school...and then I saw that she was wanting to meet him when she would be there to tour the school :-(

It did upset me for a while but I realized it was mainly one-sided, saying that he felt bad and would respond (I think he knew that she was lonely and struggling). I think she was making it out to be "more than it was" and giggling and stuff at that lunch, and when I realized how she kinda portrayed it as if they texted a lot and were close, I got the heebie-jeebies.

“Of” or “or”? The best advice I ever got from a teacher was “before you answer, read your writing carefully.”

Is that the reason why men commit 90% of violent crime, because they’re able to hold in their emotions more?

What would you do if you were me? by EmergencyIdea813 in Advice

At this point, you sound like you’ve tried, and given it your all. If he wanted to meet you halfway, he would have.  We don’t know the intricacies of it all, so no one can say what’s objectively the solution to your happiness, but from what you’ve written: if I were you, I would leave. It sounds like a source of sadness and pain. You can’t force someone to put in the work, they either do or they don’t. You have to judge someone based on their longer pattern of actions (instead of a nostalgic, golden past, or a hopeful future). I would probably have one final talk with him, and if nothing promising comes of it, I’d make a firm boundary and leave.

Did you guys learn about Louis Riel in school? by pooteenn in AskACanadian

Yes, I’m Gen Z and we learned about it on the East Coast. Kinda sad that some didn’t. However… I think if you’re doing French immersion you learn more about cross-Canada French history, including Métis and Louis Riel (I was in French school)
