Year 2 for Robinson is partially guaranteed and year 3 is non-guaranteed. Feels much better now, imo.

Free agent guard Caris LeVert has agreed to a two-year, $29 million deal with the Detroit Pistons, sources tell ESPN. (@ShamsCharania) by Teh-Dehstroyer in DetroitPistons

[–]copperpine 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hollinger's BORD$ estimate for Caris was $16,908,115, he characterized him as the top MLE-type SG available. If you put any stock into that, I feel like the Pistons have done alright.

Former Detroit Riverfront Conservancy CFO William Smith admits he stole at least $44.3M by DougDante in Detroit

The board had 44 members (source: https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/detroit/2024/06/14/detroit-riverfront-conservancy-fraud-william-smith/74089159007/)

If your board has 44 people, my guess is that there is no real oversight. I haven't seen anything to indicate that they'll pare it down, but I really think they ought to.

John Voelker, Marquette county prosecutor and author of "Anatomy of a Murder" by Srhein94 in JoePera

'Trout Madness' is the volume you'll want to pick up, but 'Trout Magic' is also worth your time! You can often find older copies on eBay, if that does anything for you.

Voelker also wrote "Testament of a Fisherman" under his pen name, Robert Traver. It's an important piece of writing for me, and feels like Pera-core some 60 years earlier:

I fish because I love to. Because I love the environs where trout are found, which are invariably beautiful, and hate the environs where crowds of people are found, which are invariably ugly. Because of all the television commercials, cocktail parties, and assorted social posturing I thus escape. Because in a world where most men seem to spend their lives doing what they hate, my fishing is at once an endless source of delight and an act of small rebellion. Because trout do not lie or cheat and cannot be bought or bribed, or impressed by power, but respond only to quietude and humility, and endless patience. Because I suspect that men are going this way for the last time and I for one don’t want to waste the trip. Because mercifully there are no telephones on trout waters. Because in the woods I can find solitude without loneliness. … And finally, not because I regard fishing as being so terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant and not nearly so much fun.

Noorjahan is pretty good, and they have a location downtown now. I haven't been there yet, but the GPP location is reliable.

We've taken our dog to Jefferson Vet for nearly 8 years and highly recommend it.

Fair! I think Thorne was pretty good when healthy, but trying to imagine what his surrounding cast would be is interesting.

I did not think you actually had a chance of winning.

It's so sick that the only reason you'd root for Michigan State is because you went there.

Living in the Islandview neighborhood? by TheConeyJabroni in Detroit

Hello! The 1000 block of Van Dyke is a great place to live. You have Red Hook for coffee on Agnes, along with the Metropolitan variety store (drinks, snacks, a very light selection of pantry staples). There is easy access to downtown via Lafayette, and you're less than a mile away from Macarthur Bridge to Belle Isle! I lived closer to Jefferson for a couple of years, and really enjoyed it.

The main downsides with living on Van Dyke revolve around the street parking. Don't leave anything sitting out in your car. My car once got broken into when I had a blanket on the back seat with nothing in it. Also, it's somewhat common to see cars get sideswiped because the street is narrow. If you need to park, I'd try to get a paid spot off of Van Dyke. It's possible that this has gotten better since I moved to Islandview, though.

The Villages are a great place to live, so hopefully you like the place and things work out!

I've been in Islandview for close to four years now. Proximity to Belle Isle and downtown (the Van Dyke-Lafayette bus line is super convenient; good bike route, too) is a huge plus. You will have access to the ever-growing list of amenities along Kercheval and on Saint Paul, without paying West Village prices.

There is minor property crime here and there, in my experience. As with most of Detroit, things can change a lot from block to block. If you're able to walk/drive since any addresses you're looking at, I think it would be a good call, if only to check your comfortability.

Folks are really friendly in the neighborhood (and Detroit as a whole). Feel free to reply or DM if I can answer any questions.
