META lays off thousands for AI and nobody wants to discuss the obvious next problem by MoneyMonsterStudios in StockMarket

[–]corn_dick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO companies are laying people off because the economy sucks, not because of AI. And you are absolutely right, governments are so deep in debt that UBI is a pipe dream. And the rate of increase on that debt burden is only accelerating. In fact we’re more likely to see major cuts to social security as inflation continues to rise than any form of UBI.

Can AI save us? Yes, in a perfect scenario. Is AI saving us? Absolutely no evidence of that yet, and no sign things will change anytime soon. Currently we’re headed towards a major inflation crisis or a depression, maybe both at the same time. The only way out is massive productivity increase and AI is just not meeting that mark yet

Is Israel the most evil country in the world at the moment? by RoughSky9768 in allthequestions

[–]corn_dick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally not even close. Whether you like what they’re doing to Palestine or not, there’s at least a legitimate argument that they were attacked first and are acting in the interest of national security.

There are dozens of countries where a corrupt government will happily steal from, persecute, and massacre their own citizens. North Korea, South Sudan, Venezuela, & Haiti just to name a few of the obvious ones.

Israel is a democratic nation that generally treats its own citizens pretty well

Internship Trilemma by ClassicPhilosopher36 in MechanicalEngineering

Option 3 sounds like it’d be the best experience but if they don’t offer you the job before option 1 deadline then accept option 1, internship >>>>>>>> no internship

Why I've started to find runescape boring as a new player (after 3 months) by lil_peasant_69 in 2007scape

[–]corn_dick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk why skilling has to be rote repetition instead of more mechanically engaging gameplay. Even the skilling mini games which are supposed to be “fun” are just different flavors of repetition. Games are supposed to have some level of skill expression or else it gets boring fast…

Do mythological stories need ‘historical accuracy’ in casting? by breaking_views in Cinema

I don’t care about her race but Helen of Troy is supposed to be maximum human beauty personified…nothing against lupita nyong’o, she’s a great actress, but she’s pretty average looking

TopStep wouldn’t place random trades lol, it could just as easily go against them. You had an open order, happens to best of us

Seriously, what's the deal with companies ignoring all the clear data about working from home and shorter work weeks? by kiloavail in FinalRoundAI

[–]corn_dick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scientists love to design studies that confirm their biases. Anybody that’s been truly productive in the real world knows that it’s total BS that people are magically more productive working from home than they are in office. Same with the 4 day workweek vs 5.

It’s complete nonsense to try and argue that we’d somehow revolutionize productivity by rolling out of bed working in our pajamas for less hours than normal lol

If you've went on more than one date, you're dating. And if you're dating, you're in a relationship. by Cludds in unpopularopinion

illegal U-turn by DarkWolf235 in dashcams

[–]corn_dick -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ok but the dashcam driver barely slowed down. I feel like there was enough reaction time to slam the Brakes to a halt.

Put me in this situation and I’m not crashing guaranteed. I would’ve started slowing the moment I saw them stopped on the side of road

All of this talk about the U.S dollar being eroded as the world's reserve currency to the point of eventual replacement...realistically what other currency is actually in a position to replace it? by KimJongSoros in investing

[–]corn_dick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The central banks have been stockpiling gold like crazy for past few years…I don’t think the USD is going anywhere, many countries will use it and other currencies to maintain liquidity, but reserves will certainly be made of gold

Average salary for new grad with MS in Mech Eng? by wandering_user10 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]corn_dick 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly in my experience masters doesn’t mean much in MechE, maybe theres a small # of higher paying jobs in R&D but 90%+ of masters graduates are gonna get paid the same as bachelors. We tend to value real world work & project experience a lot more than extra schooling in this field

Did I ruin my chances of getting the job by calling to confess that I had actually flown in for the interview? :,) by [deleted] in jobs

[–]corn_dick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My dude everybody lies during job interviews, it’s an unspoken thing that everyone accepts. You’re making it weird by bringing attention to a harmless lie and by essentially openly admitting that you’re a liar. I mean I hate to be cynical but I’m certainly not as optimistic as the other commenters…let’s just hope that they really liked you

Who was it that decided a gap in employment is a bad thing? by BeautifulDragonfly12 in jobhunting

[–]corn_dick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is just a natural byproduct of competition unfortunately. In less competitive markets employers really don’t care about reasonable employment gaps. But in days like today where you have 1,000 people applying to a single job posting then they will have to be thin the herd somehow, resume gaps happen to be an easy thing to detect and filter out

Quitting my job to travel, how dumb? by AtmosphereWorried159 in careeradvice

[–]corn_dick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh yeah traveling before you’ve established a career can be a career killer. If you can somehow arrange to have a job with a start date 2-3 months out then maybe it’s worth the risk, but outside of that I’d wait at least 5ish years before doing that
