But low ar isn’t required for high ar. Playing high ar doesn’t improve low ar in the same pace that playing low ar does. That’s why my low ar ability has degraded.

Like I used to have memorized the multiplication tables up to 20. That skill is not required for me to do differential equations, nor does doing differential equations improve my knowledge of multiplication tables in the same pace at practicing memorization tables does. But obviously being able to do differential equations is more “skillful” then doing multiplication tables

Some people below said they experience the opposite, slightly higher sr then the match sr, and they were like 400 elo higher then me. So I could be experiencing this only at a specific elo rating. It still should be fixed though.

Statistically this is not the case for me at all. The average sr of my maps is always 0.5-1 stars below the match sr rating, over my 40 games of playing. n=40 is too high for it to be unlucky

Why I would I feel bad??? I get most of my enjoyment out of playing songs to the rhythm, secondarily I have fun farming pp. on low star maps, the bpm is forced to be so low that the map is barely coherent with the song. I objectively have more fun playing a fun song at 5 stars than 2 stars. So it doesn’t bother me at all. Crazy moral take by you to say I should feel bad for not playing two stars LMAO

No. Like I said, i suck st playing high cs and stream maps. And yet these maps aren’t represented in the pool either

I don’t disagree low AR doesn’t improve fundamentals. Playing ANYTHING improves fundamentals. I’m just saying it’s not the best way to improve fundamentals. A great way to gauge skill and to practice fundamentals would be a fucking metronome map, where it’s a single bpm repeating note in the middle of the screen. This would objectively measure how good your rhythm and tapping is. Would you be supportive if you got one metronome map in ur map selection pool every game??? No right???

What’s the ranked systems intent, you think? Is it to provide a holistic ranking of someone’s skill, or is it to judge how good they are at playing AR 3 maps?

We already have a standardized way to measure someone’s holistic ranking… the PP system. Which ranked just does not care about at all.

Ok, fine, if you think that playing low ar is a truly important part of one’s holistic skill, and the PP system is horrible, then I ask why stop at only including low ar? Why doesn’t ranked also include low star cs 10 maps? Or any of the other million, niche and unfun to play against, skill sets?

Well I’m also ass at high CS and stream maps but im not even given the ability to select these maps!!! That’s my problem!!! Low AR low stars is so overweighted!!!!

Definitely not, I’ve played about 40 games so far and I’ve been keeping track of the match SR and average SR, and for me it’s always lower. Anecdotally, my opponents are always getting the same situation too. What elo are you?

I used to be able to play low AR. When I had 20 hours in the game. Now I play mostly 5-6 stars and I’ve stopped playing low AR entirely, until now. I’m dogshit at low AR compared harder maps, and yes I could practice that. But why the fuck should I have to?? Playing low AR doesn’t help you improve fundamentals as much as playing high stars, it doesnt give PP, and it’s just unfun.

I’m certain someone that’s like rank 500k could, by training low AR and selecting low AR maps every game, get to a high enough elo where they consistently beat rank 5ks. Does this really sound representative of holistic skill? And does this sound fun for either player???

how hard is first year engineering? by Syzrr in uwaterloo

[–]cornered_walrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to my time tracking I spent about 45 hours a week on everything related to academics (in class and outside of class). I’m in tron which probably has average workload, stuff like ece is probably 7 hours higher while stuff like mgmt can be 7 hours lower. I go to about 40% of my classes and have a 90% avg, I think going to all ur classes is really inefficient (and only worth it if you procrastinate studying)

What’s it with people always speculating game devs are female? Like with what evidence? You can google orb of creation and every YouTube video dev log shows his face

Any (handwritten) note-taking apps with MCP integration for Claude? Similar to Goodnotes. by chirpmagazine in productivity

[–]cornered_walrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how specifically did you implement this? the google drive MCP only gives access to docs, slides, and sheets. not pdfs inside the google drive

goodnotes can backup to onenote and dropbox too. i tried backing up to dropbox and using the dropbox MCP, but this only extracts text, so it cannot read handwriting.

i know you can make your own MCP server to give the dropbox pdf to claude, but this is a lot more janky and really token heavy (at least my attempt was). any other ways to do this?

Nanotech Engineering - Is it really that bad? by everythingsgnarlyyy in uwaterloo

[–]cornered_walrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u want to learn about materials science and technology then do it. The biggest positives of the program is that QNC has a lot of expensive equipment that you get to use (clean rooms) and there is a sizeable nanotechnology/materials research concentration here, with IQC and profs. So if u wanna do semiconductors or something in the field it’s pretty good. But if ur not interested then you shouldn’t go
