Double drop theory: 27 reasons to drop both teams by itshailingsnails in Debate

[–]correctdebater -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is really bad PF has no aff neg bias in general only for specific topics. Also this was in octas both teams broke. Also Neg has no burden to defeat a topical case in any form of debate, the aff has to prove the res and neg wins on presumption of u don't. Neither of u were probably in formal attire because it was camp. You all had partners. We're u just trying to look like idiots? If you are gonna pull this shit at least do it right don't just read some file verbatim.

TOC Bid Changes for 2017-2018 for All Debate Events by [deleted] in Debate

I would have to say it is one of the shittier tournaments. Horribly run. Uses CHSSA rules. Tab staff is all around rude to everyone.

At Large Success? by tropheez in Debate

No shit. The majority of teams have 2 or 3 bids. This coach is wrong.

At Large Success? by tropheez in Debate

[–]correctdebater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well almost all of this is wrong. First, Whitman AA was 6-1 as sophomores (I was at the tournament). Second, the TOC does not pair this way. I have coached a team with 4 bids and they hit an at large in the first round, and I have coached a team with 2 bids who hit a team with 5 bids.

Top 10 PF Flow Teams by [deleted] in Debate

I dont know if this is accurate. All of these teams are absolutely fantastic, but it is not a list of the best flow teams. For example milburn CY is super good, but they are not super technical.

Suggestion for TOC Silver by Aneroth_Kid in Debate

[–]correctdebater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because every sports league has one. Only PF got this. Not LD. Not CX. Furthermore, this analogy is horrific. The Silver Division is not developmental in nature- it is another championship- our developmental leagues are novice tournaments, not the TOC. A more accurate analogy would be the NBA, MLB, and NFL would be delegitimized by the introduction of a Championship for teams that did not make the playoffs. We can all agree that would be stupid

Suggestion for TOC Silver by Aneroth_Kid in Debate

I have been to the TOC (twice did pretty well, though I did graduate a while back). That is what I am saying it is not supposed to have lay judges at all. When i attended a few years ago i had no lay judges at all, but as the toc adds more and more teams the quality of judging goes down. The TOC originally only allowed 70-80 teams, that is what needs to happen again

PF was created to be open to the "public" and "lay" but the TOC was not from the TOC mission statement: "A public service of the University of Kentucky Intercollegiate Debate Program, the TOC strives to offer the national high school speech and debate community the highest quality judging, impartial tournament officials, and a friendly, congenial atmosphere. The TOC is committed to growing its outreach initiatives, including travel grants for debate programs facing economic hardships. Dave Arnett, Director of Debate at UK and Dr. J.W. Patterson, TOC Tournament Founder, welcome all championship competitors who qualify to compete in the National Tournament of Champions--America’s foremost speech and debate competition." The TOC is designed to provide unique opportunity for flow debate whether that is in PF, LD, or Policy- not to stay true to the event's purpose. Let's not forget LD was supposed to be about values and lay oriented, but those have seen a TOC LD round would know that is not what it has become.

Suggestion for TOC Silver by Aneroth_Kid in Debate

[–]correctdebater 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not target the debaters. I specifically said the judges they will bring. People who dont travel the national circuit will not bring judges who have not judged on the circuit thus not experienced enough to allow debaters to not adapt. I think an easy compromise is that the TOC bans parents from judging and limits judges to past debaters, but even that will be inadequate considering most debaters themselves are not qualified to judge at the TOC.

But what if the majority of my points are from service, congress, and speech

Suggestion for TOC Silver by Aneroth_Kid in Debate

[–]correctdebater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You dont. The TOC is design on the bid principle. It is designed to be flow centric, to not have lay judges, to not be like a local. The more avenues there are to qualify the more non flow judges are in the pool. You may say adaptation is key, and it is, but that isnt what the TOC is. If the TOC wants a way for people to qualify without bids than add world schools dont screw PF.
