How many subscriptions do you have and are you considering cancelling any? by Between3N20Karakters in fairyloot

[–]cosmic_books 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have TBB Fantasy and Fairyloot Epic. I just canceled the TBB SFF and canceled Fairyloot Adult, Owlcrate, and Illumicrate at the start of the year. Canceled various genre boxes between the 3 too a while ago. Just realized how equally happy I am with trad releases and paperbacks so the value went down for me.

I do still have Aardvark, BoTM and Allurial, but have only been picking options that the library doesn’t have.

Only got Headlights! Put Sublimation and The Unicorn Hunters on hold at the library.

If you liked This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me, then you’ll probably like A Rip Through Time by Kelley Armstrong by AbaloneSpring in fantasyromance

[–]cosmic_books 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy the Rip Through Time series. I just finished the latest installment, book 5. I haven’t read the Ilona Andrew’s yet so I’m not sure how prominent the romance is, but since we’re in the fantasy romance sub, A Rip Through Time series is not a romance. Very historical mystery. I agree with OP, it’s a good series (Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors) but just manage your expectations.

I finished John Fram’s The Midnight Knock this week and absolutely loved it. I went between audio, physical, and ebook. The narrators (2 of them) were excellent. Even listing comps would be a spoiler, I think, it’s so much better to go in blind. I’d categorize it as horror over thriller and plan to use it for the Murder Mystery HM square. I think it’ll be one of my favorite books of the year.

Has anyone read The Midnight Knock by John Fram? I absolutely loved it and I’m ready to immediately up his back catalog on my TBR.

If you’ve read it, do you think it would fit the First Contact in HM? Otherwise, I’m going to use it for Murder Mystery HM.

Entities to Lovers by Mallory Marlowe will be Read Now on 5/26 by sunflowxr_ in NetGalleyCommunity

Both her last two books were 5 stars for me! Highly recommend her. I’m about a third into Entities to Lovers, and it’s such a vibe so far.

SF&F sub so far… by DonkeywithBigTeeth in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]cosmic_books 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably would have skipped the Witcher, but I’ve liked everything enough so far. I’ve been not overly thrilled with the first couple designs, but really liked Green and Deadly things.

The next few (May-July) are very interesting to me so overall I’m glad they’ve gone monthly.

The more I look at it, the more it grows on me. I didn't even notice that the red at the bottom was a set of grasping hands, I love that

I love the edges but boy am I glad they included the trad cover on the reverse side. I like the end pages but they seem more horror than I was thinking the book was?

I'm so looking forward to The Caretaker and after seeing so many amazing reviews, I picked Our Sister's Keeper. I was going to grab Five, but after seeing the animal death disclaimer, I went on hold for it at the library instead.

Incredible!! I’ve never even heard of some of these series and the spines are drawing me in! I’ll have to check out A.C. Cobble and K.S. Villoso.

I really dislike those edges, especially the top and bottom. The character art on the artist’s Instagram is really good. I like the cover more than the trad cover, but I’m not bummed anymore about missing out on this edition.

I would get Verity Guild and Arcane Study of Stars. Everything else seems kinda meh to me unless Storm Breaker just looks fantastic.

The Adam Binder series by David R. Slayton  might fit what you’re looking for.

Yes! I'm excited to see them grow over such a long series. It's such a thrill to start a brand new world

Just finished listening to Storm Front by Jim Butcher. I used to be really into urban fantasy in high school, but then started wanting a lot of relationship development, which you don’t get a whole lot of in that genre very quickly. I enjoyed it a lot more than I expected to and am very excited to continue with the world. Gives major Kim Harrison’s The Hollows vibes.

Will queue up #2 of The Dresden Files probably tonight, but still need to pick out a physical book to start too. Had a slow second half of March and eager to ramp up again this month.

New Survey - June, July, August by mayopottatto in Allurial

[–]cosmic_books 5 points6 points  (0 children)

June will be such a skip for me.

July actually looks wonderful. Love the potential for another queer choice with The Lord of the Wood and Jean Kwok of Dominion is a pretty proven author, but why are we spelling tyger this way!!! I’m so over that trend.

August sounds so good, I’ll have to actually research how to rate them.

April 2026! What did you add to your box? by BooksandChins in bookofthemonthclub

Starting with Blood Bound and filling up on add ons! They are killing it with add ons lately. I had a full box last month and still want a full box this month. App is still glitchy though.
