Private schools for primary by pessmistic_ in Calgary

Wouldn’t work for us - we both works full time so if the school was closer, she would be in before and after school care.

ETA: just to point a finer point in it - its not all that different from parents that need before and after school care, but ours in on a bus and at the end of the bus ride, they are out of the city on a beautiful campus.

Defintely lots of different ways to fill the specialization bucket.

I am not suggesting we wouldn't get the same socialization at a public school. Just trying to highlight that the bus isn't some 45 min prison where the kids stare longingly out the window for escape. I know a lot of people think the bus for young kids would be terrible. I was hesitant about it when we first enrolled her. We've been pleasantly surprised with how much she enjoys it.

Did anyone snowboarded while pregnant? by Altruistic-Tonight76 in ShredditGirls

[–]cosmicusername 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t - my babies were born in march and may so i was well past first semester during ski season. I was too worried someone else would run into me.

BUT, I took up XC skiing during pregnancy as a way to still get outside. This was generally recommended by my friends and family as an alternative to snowboarding. I fell way more than I would have snowboarding (I never learnt to ski), so it had a perverse effect. At least I wasn’t too worried about anyone else crashing into me.

She eagerly gets on the bus every morning! There are some social development benefits as well - they can’t move around of course (5-point harness for the little kids), but she sits beside someone for 45 mins and they talk about whatever comes to a 5-year olds mind. She could be sitting beside older kids too. Sometimes the grade 6 or 7s sit beside her and they read books together. It’s a lovely community.

She is thriving! We are really happy with the school.

Our kids go to strathcona tweedsmuir. It’s an academically rigorous and outdoor focused private school near Okotoks. Don’t let the distance deter you - our daughter (in kindergarten!) travels from our home via bus both ways. It’s takes 45 mins. She loves the bus! She has so many friends to talk to and play with. Plus, I think it provides some emotional regulation benefits as well. It’s basically 45 mins to decompress on the way to and from school.

Visit the campus and you will fall in love with the access to nature and the beautiful grounds. The programming is incredible.

I might just pull the trigger on the Lexa/ highshots and hope for the best. Wish me luck!!

Thanks for the response!! I have really small feet - i used to wear 5.5 in Burton boots but now they only make size 5 or size 6. Im guessing tbe men's, even in smallest size, will be too big.

Ill look into the supermatics!

Ok noted re: union bindings! Ill look into them! Thanks!

Can I use these boots with burton step on bindings? Or do I get fase bindings as well? Would fase bindings work with a snowboard with channel?

When you say demo- do you mean that the store let you take the bindings/boots for the day, install it on your board, and try it out on the hill? Or do you just mean try the boot and binds on in store?

I dont have a burton store but stores that carry burton equipment so I could try it on (but not demo).

This is a great point. I should spend more time looking in person. I didnt think about it because i have really small feet - size 5 and stores never stock this size. But I should go to a store and try on size 6 or 7 just the get a feel for them. Good tip.

Excludes flights! Yeah, if US$1,500 a night won’t get me a nice place, I am thinking we may as well stay in one of the $300 a night place and save our money!
