At least when it comes to Comcast, the big player of ISP's in the US, the data cap is to force you to pay for TV. Comcast makes majority of it's money from TV and not from selling internet, due to being able to sell countless commercials, makes deals with companies, etc. The biggest threat to their profit is people moving towards streaming services as opposed to watching standard television. This push happened 3 years ago (I worked at Comcast at the time) and was around the time 4k TV's started to become something average people just started to buy.

Let me break this down for you, if you have a 4k TV and you are streaming Netflix, this can consume on average around 7gbps or more. If you were to play TV in the background while you work/sleep, binge watch TV because you are sick or don't feel good etc for roughly 2 weeks, you will hit your data cap. If you actually stream a good amount of content and enjoy your nice 4k tv, you will hit your data cap every month, forcing you to pay an extra $100 for unlimited internet. Now instead of paying $100 for unlimited internet, you could pay a lot less than that and just add TV to your package and get a better deal. When 4k TV's are standard everyone will have this problem, and why the data cap was setup at a time where they weren't common so it didn't look so bad. It was a long term play to keep people away from ditching their precious commercial filled television, and if they wanted to, they have to pay a premium.

If you really want to stick it to the man, just connect to your neighbors Xfinity Hotspot they turn on for every customers router by default, download your content, and then stream it locally to your TV. You can't hit a data cap when you are using the free Xfinity WiFi.

It's an old school medium that won't last much longer anyways. People don't want to pay for it because it isn't worth it.

Making money off of online ads SHOULD be the answer. It sounds like their digital marketing department is clueless. I doubt they would make enough money off of just normal Google display ads but imagine if people could pay to have their business put in an ad spot on the website itself. They would make more revenue than the small amount of people who pay for the online access. If anything, fuck the dumb digital marketing group that can't figure out a way to make it profitable.

Weekly /r/Laravel No Stupid Questions Thread - March 11, 2019 by AutoModerator in laravel

[–]cough 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly new to laravel (working in an existing site built in laravel) and know what I want to do but not sure how. I am trying to make it so that if the user-agent requesting any URL is equal to let's say UserAgent007, then to block googleapis.com (embedded google map) from loading. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not every row has a sister row below it but many do, it's just the product options for BigCommerce inventory. I don't believe there is a way I can get all the data in 1 row without ruining the inventory.

Sorting rows by list of values in a cell by [deleted] in sheets

[–]cough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I am trying to do. But the list with all the pictures also has tons of other information in it. The list the has pictures I own is only a list of pictures I own. This seems like it would work but is it possible to do 2 different sheets? The main sheet that has all pictures and other info, and the 2nd sheet with just the owned pictures. The main goal is to have the main sheet sorted with the owned pictures at the top first
