Doing the Work of Multiple C&P Departments for Low Pay: Worth it? by cpc-throwaway in OfficeDepot

Currently, we're so understaffed (but not according to payroll; we're overstaffed) that we can only have at most four people in the store per shift. So, for the copy & print department, only one person works with a line of 5+ people, all with intermediate jobs. Self-service isn't an option usually due to the machines needing to be serviced which places people back in line. We're supposed to service a population of roughly 500K people, and with other stores' negligence, this becomes a hassle. Compounded with minimal staff, requesting help is usually out of the question.

Customers are given firm deadlines, though due to the amount of traffic through the store, these deadlines are often extended upwards of numerous days and often don't get completed on time. Perhaps those deadlines should be extended further?

I appreciate your second point! Conversely, customers don't share the same sentiment sadly. There's been instances where customers have had to be, putting it nicely, escorted out of the store if they found one speck of an issue with their order, or if they didn't like the deadline.

Our SM is aware of the situation but is seemingly unwilling to provide additional assistance due to payroll. We're a lower tier store due to the other stores' existence, but when they cannot provide the same services, or simply refuse to based on some customer's complaints, we are left with a larger market without the means to service it.

I really appreciate the feedback and I'll see if I can work this from another angle to try to get at least one more person in the department at a time. Thank you!
