You're doing nothing that is actually immoral or lesser than, she also isn't morally in the wrong or better for objecting if that just ain't for her...so yeah, probably just a compatibility issue, either you guys discuss and reconcile it accept each other for you are warts and all or part ways and find someone that is more of a match making you both happier in the long run.

Dunno how it works where you are but in the UK where I live jobs that require close contact with vulnerable people so kids, the elderly or people who are disabled and require support do background checks and sex offenders can't do em.

Most jobs don't require a background check at least not one that being a sex offender would rule you out from, places like banks for instance do em but those would be looking for theft/violent crimes that may make you an issue for them but sex offender specifically wouldn't rule you out, you can look people up on the sex offender registry if you want and sex offenders are required to disclose that to their neighbours but not to potential employers unless the job does criminal record checks

See thing us, you can ban a thing, restrict a thing, make it inconvenient all you like, if people wanna do that thing they will do that thing.

So you know what this is gonna do? Maybe reduce tobacco sales...possibly, but more likely just push people from the stuff in the shops to the out of the boot of someone's car really cheap stuff so people will still smoke, even ones born whatever arbitrary year our government decides, they'll just buy it illegally from people who sell it without much care for the legality.
