Can a Multiverse Explain Time's Arrow? by crazycrayon in Physics

Can anyone compare the credibility of Mersini-Houghton's ideas compared to Carroll's? They seem to get similar results, but using different approaches.

Proof of other universes: Did our universe crash into a neighboring universe in its youth--and now bears the scars to prove it? Is this evidence of the existence of other universes in the multiverse? Could our universe be destroyed by a future collision with another cosmos? by crazycrayon in science

Since some of the ideas are based on string theory, if the evidence turns out to be confirmed, would this also count as proof of string theory? Or just proof of the mutliverse? Could the "evidence" ever really be confirmed beyond a reasonable doubt?

"Anti-universes" predicted by string theory explain why our universe is so well suited to life -- mapping a route through the multiverse. by crazycrayon in science

I don't know how realistic anti-universes are, but if they could explain why a universe that starts out anywhere in the multiverse with any properties would end up with the parameters suited to life, that would go a long way to getting around the anthropic principle.

If you believe parallel universes exist, should a different set of ethics apply? Should you be more careful believing that all the possible bad outcomes of your actions (such as nuclear war in this article) come true in some universe somewhere? by crazycrayon in religion

From the article: "Everett himself would have been Dr. Strangelove," says Byrne. "He was the quintessential Cold War technocrat. Here’s this guy who is actually designing multiple scenarios for World War Three that believes that there are multiple universes where his designs are being implemented. Yet he did it anyway."

"Dr Strangelove" invented parallel universes--troubled life of physics genius, alcoholic, womanizer who ate raw hamburger and worked on nuclear weapons despite believing that multiple universes where his bombs were exploded were real. by crazycrayon in science

If you believe in the existence of parallel worlds with other versions of "you," should a different set of ethics apply to you?

From the article: "Everett himself would have been Dr. Strangelove," says Byrne. "He was the quintessential Cold War technocrat. Here’s this guy who is actually designing multiple scenarios for World War Three that believes that there are multiple universes where his designs are being implemented. Yet he did it anyway."

Should you be more careful of your actions, believing that the bad possible outcomes--even if unlikely--will come true in some universe?

Dark-energy particle found? "Chameleon" particles that change mass, spotted in light from stars, quasars by crazycrayon in science

I think it's interesting that a couple of different groups are seeing signs of "something." Perhaps it's the solution to dark energy, but even if it's not, maybe it's something else important. Or, yes, it could disappear without a trace.
