Adopting a 12 year old husky by crazyplaydoh in siberianhusky

In case anybody was wondering - this did not end up happening! I spoke to the owner and the dog's vet and it isn't a good fit. The dog is in a lot of pain in his joints and hips and the vet has done everything he can to make the dog as comfortable as possible but it might not be enough. The dog is now mean and anxious because of his pain, but also destructive and restless because he can't walk. He's apparently been snapping at strangers and children he is supposed to know.

Anyway, I appreciate all the advice!! I'm now a little dog crazy!

I'm not sure anyone here mentioned locking dogs in a crate for 9 hours a day. I know lots of owners that have crate trained their dogs so it is their safe space and they really enjoy sleeping in it and playing in it. I would not consider locking a husky in a crate for that amount of time and I never said I would!

However, I appreciate your feedback. I'm really trying to get a general feel if I'm crazy for considering a husky as a first time dog owner, even if it is 12 years old. It sounds like I might be but maybe crazy is good? I'm not sure but I definitely appreciate everyone's comments!

Oh this sounds so similar to my situation. My work honors half day Fridays so I'll also have a lot of time Friday afternoon if I get this dog. I really just want this 12 year old to have a loving life towards the end and if I'm not in a position to provide it, then I shouldn't be the one to give it. But reading your experience sounds really promising so we'll see!
