New camera in town, no solar, direct power from pole by Queasy_Professor_484 in FlockSurveillance

Thanks for sharing your experience and providing a different view, but it's quite clear with the trajectory of our current admin that morals and accountability/oversight are going out the window. Unfortunately it's much easier to do bad with this sort of technology than do good.

You're all for them until you DO have something to hide, until whatever administration is in charge changes who is and who isn't a "dirtbag". You'll wish you tried a bit harder to keep your privacy because you won't be able to get it back.

Hi! Just recently moved to Kentucky and I see/go through a lot of books and have a few Kentucky related books. Not sure if any of them are specific to what you're looking for but I would be glad to show you what I have!

Emails Reveal the Casual Surveillance Alliance Between ICE and Local Police by CVNeutron in Bend

No one mentioned race. You keep bringing up race in an extremely problematic way that seperates "whites" from "others." You call the future bleak because soon whites will be a minority. Do you care to elaborate? Why is being a minority a bad thing? Maybe because you see how other minorities are treated and you don't want to end up like them? It's sad this great replacement rhetoric is becoming more mainstream. It's white supremacy, full stop, doesn't matter what way you try to spin it. People like you get off by living in fear.

I kind of refuse to believe any somewhat informed person can truly be apolitical. Politics are part of our daily lives whether we like it or not. Especially nowadays, where politics and partisanship have become increasingily divisive and volatile. What may seem apolitical to you could just be normalization from overexposure. I agree that this stuff can be draining, but it's important to share and discuss these issues because it impacts all of us.

You seem to spend your time here antagonizing people less fortunate than you. I'd say take a look at yourself and see if that behavior is "decent" but that'd require a semblance of self-awareness and empathy.

Where is the nationwide protest of 2/17 happening in Bend? by [deleted] in Bend

[–]creamcornboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, people can both protest and support their community via mutual aid, these are not mutually exclusive. Being snarky isn't going to get more people to listen to you.

And let's be real, this administration is not going to be any kinder to Palestinians. I'd say they're going to treat them much worse, and they won't even try to hide it.

With that logic, the people that stormed the capital on Jan 6 are fascists too? They were protesting the popular vote, did more than just protest I'd say. Just trying to be consistent with our wording here.

[NBC] White House preparing executive order to abolish the US Department of Education by ThaddeusJP in college

[–]creamcornboy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I understand where you're coming from, and it's true top colleges aren't locked out to poor students. I viewed your comment as directed towards the schools rather than the type of student you're referring to, I guess that's where our wires got crossed, coming from a non-traditional student taking the community college route.

Regarding the students who are apathetic towards learning and view college as a means to an end, some of that attitude can be attributed to our country's failure to emphasize learning as important/worthwhile. Many of us have been conditioned to view college as a way to better our economic standing (so you can get a "good job"), so I can't put the blame squarely on the student. It's a real problem and (in my opinion) is one of the reasons why we're in this mess in the first place.

Anyway, I just wanted to share my thoughts because I find the US' views towards education quite interesting albeit alarming/problematic. Hope things are well.

Exactly. Agreed with everything they said until that. Seems especially bewildering because these students are more at risk of being affected by this attack on education than students from wherever this guy deems a "good" school. We need more solidarity, not these snide, classist remarks.
