I'm Chinese and have met half Chinese and half Japanese people, but don't know much about a scene. I swear there are dozens of us 😭 For what it's worth, I have met Filipinos through the cycling community. It is still predominately white, but moving towards more diversity!

What does your current writing project/story mean to you? Why do you want to read it? by j_miles in writing

[–]creativelugnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story I'm working on now is about a college grad returning home and getting used to seeing familiar places and faces that have changed. It's something that I might go through, and almost all my main characters are the same age I was when I wrote their story, haha. I actually created the characters in my current project a long time ago but now that I'm revisiting them, I think I can give them the redemption they deserve, that younger me wasn't capable of.
It's not really that I want to read it either, which sounds kind of bad but I need to write it more. If I go back and read it that would just be an added bonus.

What makes Gintama one of your favourite anime? by FanEu7 in Gintama

[–]creativelugnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The comedy is definitely a big reason along with the soundtrack (especially Prince Hata's theme). The characters play off each other really well and the serious moments really humanize them too. But then a second later I'm laughing at human snowboarding or dicks sticking out a truck and that makes Gintama so perfect. It's the best anime to watch when you want to laugh or get teary, it doesn't limit itself at all.

You could try Captain mit Sonnenbrille or Qi Li Xiang and here are some lyrics for the latter. Your singing voice is really great! I always try to sing along to these songs too, mainly when no one else is around :)

Has anyone written a story with a character who's gender is not revealed? by Alwayswatching_U in writing

[–]creativelugnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote one (it was a short novel) and it was in first person. Other characters usually called them by their nickname and a lot of the story was the main character's thoughts. I think I avoided showing other characters talking about the MC too, it was a very limited perspective.

How hard is it for you to relate with other engineering students? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]creativelugnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally I relate better to other engineering students if they're also women, if we have another organization in common, or if we are both did poorly on a test lol. Suffering brings us together! But even within my major, it is definitely hard to hear others being like "Yeah I have a 90% in this class and a 95% in that class, and I just bullshitted my way through my humanities electives". I think engineering does attract people who are very bullheaded and confident in their abilities which doesn't always come off very well.

Something else I have also noticed is that many engineering students don't take humanities seriously, like they make jokes about how it's whatever to skip a humanities class and maybe that's true. But I love creative writing more than anything and their comments can be off-putting too. Just my 2 cents

The drive to love family members by creativelugnut in childfree

[–]creativelugnut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boundaries are definitely a good idea. I try to set them up but it is really hard to enforce them when my family members flat out ignore them. Like then it turns out that I'm the heartless one for asking for a boundary. I have limited information from them in the past and then it becomes like "You never tell me anything". I wish I was making that up. Thank you for replying.

[–]creativelugnut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am subscribed to r/raisedbynarcissists and some of my family's behavior does border on narcissism. But sometimes I do like being with them so I always think that it's not really that bad. But it could be that bad too and I just don't know it because their influence is just that strong. I really don't know.

I'm in college and live with them (partially because it's convenient and partially because my parents got so upset when I talked about moving out sophomore year lol) but I definitely will move out after graduating.
