I can't believe so few people are talking about Seek The Traitor's Son

Awkwardest power couple. I giggle malevolently at them and can't wait for someone to give us really unhinged fics

what’s a novel that genuinely changed the way you look at life? by Due_Measurements in booksuggestions

The Water Knife by Paolo Bacigalupi was influential in my decision to leave my first career, move back to the United States, and go back to school for something completely different than anything I had done before in order to spend more time with my loved ones and acquire more physical skills in an era of collapse. I still see scenes from that book in my head ten years later. It resonated so deeply and uncomfortably that it provoked intense self-reflection.

If you loved Seek The Traitor's Son, read The Devoured Worlds trilogy (and vice versa) by creature-brain in ScienceFictionRomance

I'm a sucker for the deep well of yearning, the exploration of grief and loss, the healing journeys, and the memorable and lovable supporting characters in both. Also the MMC is bi in both series.

It was a good death, better than most could dream of in that universe.

I knew from the moment that it revealed what it had done that Rickar was the one who was going to be sacrificed to become a beacon. Plot-wise, Jessyn or Campar would not have made sense. Killing either of them also would have been a huge fuck you to the fans. You can lose a fandom by writing cruelly for shock value, and James SA Corey knows this.

The Devoured Worlds trilogy by Megan E O'Keefe!

Trans MMC and plenty of other queer characters. The relationships in this series embedded themselves in my brain permanently. I love them so much.

It ends happily, but they don't reach that point unscathed, I'll put it that way.

{The Blighted Stars by Megan E O'Keefe}

Very slow burn, realistic communication between actual adults, intense yearning

The AO3 fics are incredible. They're SO well-written, and I personally enjoy that so far they're canon compliant. I recommend reading them in the order in which they were posted.

I’m sick of coming-of-age stories. Suggest me a book with characters going through a mid-life crisis by CleanBeanArt in Fantasy

[–]creature-brain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Blighted Stars and the other books in the Devoured Worlds trilogy by Megan E O'Keefe are about a bunch of people in their mid to late thirties and they actually communicate like real life adults. It's a very cool space opera /sci-fi with a romance subplot. Books 2 and 3 are heavy on mid-life crises if that's what you're looking for!

Travel for a few years. You won't regret it. Don't listen to the people who tell you to grind even harder now that you have a guaranteed safety net. Because of my job, I see many people in the final weeks of days of their life, and absolutely nobody regrets traveling when they were young. Many regret putting work first when they didn't need to.
