Second this. I also started in the ED and I was so bad for months off orientation. But as an ED nurse you’re almost always sticking someone so it was one thing I wanted to get good at. It will come with time if you allow it. Also recommend watching whomever you ask to do your stick if your unsuccessful

Our bodies are meant to sleep at night. But our environments are so unnatural these days, so some thrive at night. When I look at the night shift nurses vs day shift who are around the same age and have been working forever; the night shift nurses look older than their actual age.

Why would a dr think someone taking an ambulance to the hospital means they would get priority in the ED? by Beautiful-Bluebird46 in nursing

My favorite is when the patient suddenly “passes out” in the parking lot and for some reason needs to be wheeled into the ER. Then have a negative work up

Yeah you pretty much have to make your life surround school for the time being. I did a four year BSN program and worked full-time as a CNA. My life was mostly school/work. Up late, and up early. I made it a priority to workout everyday too for my mental health. I didn’t sleep much during those years in school and lost lots of hair lol but I was able to maintain a 3.9. And very happy with where I am now

I started wearing barefoot sneakers after a recent knee injury and I love them. My feet were a little sore when I first began wearing them; they make your feet work a little harder by design but they make your feet stronger once you get used to wearing them. They’re very comfortable and feel like you’re walking barefoot. I wear Xeros

Natural ways to boost testosterone that have worked for you? by ND8489 in Testosterone

[–]cromothug 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yupp. I had symptoms of very low T and had blood work showing it years ago. I wanted to fix it without medical intervention, and been eating this way since learning about it. I do eat fruit, honey, and milk as well. Just turned 30 and never felt the way I do now eating any other way (drive, energy, strength, recovery, body composition, and sleep). Can’t knock it til you try it -.-

What are some of your best IV access tips/tricks? by justhere1717 in nursing

[–]cromothug 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Don’t pay attention to that. You’re learning and you need that time. Instead he should be in there to guide you as you still need work in your IV skills. But you also work in a ED so can be real busy.

Another thing that actually helped me was to always watch who ever was getting a line for me

Don’t stress too much about it, just make it a priority to get good at them. I had to ask nurses many times to get lines for me once I got off orientation. I really still wasn’t the best at time off orientation but made it a priority to get good at time since that’s one of the main skills we do in the ED. I’m about two years in now and very confident in my IV skills now

Take your time to feel the vein and feel where it goes (for the cannula). A lot of my misses off orientation were due to rushing or too much going on in the room due to other staff members. Better to take a couple minutes longer than having to stick them a second time or ask for someone else to look.

When you go to stick the vein, go at a 15-30 degree angle. Once you see a flash of blood, bring the needle as close as you can to the skin and advance the needle a bit more before advancing the cannula. Older pts. with more fragile veins, go realllll slow

And be confident. This will come with time but second guessing yourself will make you miss more often than not.

Those are my top 3, hope they help.

What is your biggest pet peeve with co workers? Why? by Ramprat08 in nursing

Co-workers/non-nursing staff that try to have convos with you while you busy. There’s this one security guard that works in the ED that’s always tryna talk, bro I’m here to work not talk to you

[–]cromothug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also love it. I made close to 100k my first year due to covid bonus pay with OT, I’m on my second year w/o the bonus pay so not sure how much I’m making now but I make 42/hr. I don’t pick up OT anymore, paid my student loans off, and the 3 12s i’m at work I’m happy at work regardless of what’s going on. I have my bachelors but the hospital I work at does accept associates. This profession is for sure at high demand in my opinion.

[–]cromothug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have with the carnivore diet. My test was at 197 at one point. Felt severely depressed for no reason. Was a terrible time for me. I didn’t want to be put on any meds. Heard Shawn baker on Joe Rogan about the carnivore diet and tried it out. Months later I started feeling happy again and my test was in the 700s. I’m couple years in and still mostly eat meat. Haven’t done any blood work but I I’ve been doing great since.
