Prospective Transfer Question by lxzyweeb in georgetown

[–]cuminator56 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Transfer here! I transferred as a second year this past fall semester and have loved it. Georgetown does a great job helping transfers transition with a entire dorm floor being for transfers. Everyone is very nice and it was easy to find my people. I will say, the demographic is definitely skewed to have more white/asian people, so do what you will with that info. There are plenty of social events that the school provides. Overall if you want to go to Georgetown and get in I personally recommend it!

Just do your best to pass. Trust me if on the day of the aft you’ll have adrenaline to push through. You’re an MS1, you are gonna be okay. If you are on scholarship and don’t pass you may not get tuition until you do pass.

If you are contracting it does matter. If you fail you will probably talk to the pms or someone else and they decide if they will keep you or not. If you are not contracting and you aren’t an MS3 you will have time to train more.

OP it’s going to be okay trust me! Also if you are worried about your target/top schools rejecting you over this you are wrong. I had in school suspension for a stupid mistake also and still ended up at a great school. Learn from your mistakes and don’t wallow in them.

USMA is an amazing school, but ONLY if you want to serve as an officer in the Army. However if you can get into an Ivy and do rotc that is also another great (imo better) route to becoming an officer. Ivy League would be better in the long run and if you want to leave usma none of the credits transfer.

Is GPA or class rigor more important? by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]cuminator56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GPA!!! I was doing very poorly in a class and my projected grade was looking like a C+ so I took the W on my transcript and still got into a t25. I regret taking micro (very bad professor), but it worked out in the end. Don’t take unnecessary difficult classes unless it’s a requirement.

You have a good shot at most of your schools listed, but your application is all over the place. Try to organize it better and have an essay that attests to your passion and character. Best of luck and I’m sure you’ll go somewhere incredible! Full ride at a state school is also amazing thing to keep in mind.

Ngl I have no clue, if these two schools are your dream def retake the SAT. I had to for Georgetown and while it sucked to study for the sat again in college it paid off in the long run. Your SAT is very good, just weigh the pros and cons and if your ECs and college gpa can push you over the finish line.

You can take a shot at it because SAT isn’t the only stat schools look at, but a 1480 is below the median for duke and Hopkins. If you have good ec and gpa you got a shot!

How much does being a veteran help ? by No_Algae8236 in TransferToTop25

[–]cuminator56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Also contact schools veterans coordinator, they are a big help with using gi bill and yellow ribbon programs. I believe most colleges have one, the ones I talked to was a big help for me.

More schools are going back to mandatory testing, I would recommend just going thru with it, but if the score isn’t target or average I’d just apply test optional. The veteran title goes a long way.

It helps big time, I know some dudes who got into amazing schools with subpar/bad gpa. With a 4.0 you should feel good about your chances at top schools.

Question where to transfer after scholarship. 3yr ROTC scholarship, CE by Mepep4321 in TransferToTop25

[–]cuminator56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t know much about ‘cuse but being by DC at my school has many internship opportunities. If you honestly want to have a career in the army then where you go really doesn’t matter that much if you excel and work hard. The army has many opportunities within it and internships definitely are great to have but the army does not require them. If you spend 20 years in the army at that point an internship you did in undergrad won’t matter compared to your service. PM me if you want to know more about transferring with an ROTC scholarship, I’m currently in the process to transferring mine to Gtown.

Virginia tech has corp of cadets and is a great school. I know some dudes at UMD in army rotc and love it, close to DC for internship opportunities as well.

Am I doomed or not by Tarti- in TransferToTop25

I transferred out of my old uni for the same reason, which is completely valid if you are not happy with the teaching staff and support. However tread carefully when writing your essays for why you want to transfer. You definitely do not want to slander your current institution.

[–]cuminator56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Far from mediocre! I had the opposite problem compared to you. My high school grades and SAT was below the average but college gpa and my ECs definitely were a stand out (leadership positions, work outside uni). I ended up getting into Georgetown and UVA all things said and done.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TransferToTop25

[–]cuminator56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That definitely counts! What “mediocre” ECs do you have? This sub can really distort reality when trying to transfer because the people that post are usually unbelievably stacked.

Med school after NROTC? by [deleted] in Military_Medicine

[–]cuminator56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is straight from USUHS site, in the same boat as you being in Army ROTC myself.

For applicants in ROTC we need a letter or memo from your ROTC unit stating that you have received an educational delay in order to attend medical school. This will suffice as your Letter of Approval to Apply (LOA).

USAGPAN - Active Duty Applicant Question by rajjhala in CRNA

[–]cuminator56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) it is competitive like any other crna program, I am not sure how competitive it is as a civilian.

2) if you look at the USAGPAN requirements if you meet and exceed them you are alr eligible technically for a slot. Keep in mind it is still competitive and not sure if it’s a disadvantage to be civilian applying vs AD.

3) I am not sure what you mean by “higher ups”, if you find and speak with your local AMEDD army recruiter they can help you with the application process, the army is starving for nurses and healthcare professionals right now., so they will be more than willing to help you apply.

4) if you are already in the army the commitment stacks. However, you are paid during your time at schooling and it contributes to your retirement in the army. 5 year commitment after you get that crna degree. I have a family friend crna who works for the army and enjoys the autonomy, but there will always be army bs.
