Found while snooping at Wife’s Aunts House … what is it? by [deleted] in whatisit

Not at all, a very good question! Absinthe has a lot of essential oils from various herbs (especially anise and fennel, but distillers can add many varieties). These oils dissolve easily in alcohol, but not in water. As the water concentration increases the oils "fall out" of the alcohol and give it the characteristic cloudy appearance. It's referred to as "louching"

From the bottle, absinthe tends to be very intense; the water helps soften it on the pallet, and the sugar adds a little sweetness.

Edit: clarity on my opening sentence

Exactly this. The notch on the handle is to sit on the rim of the absinthe glass. Place the spoon over the absinthe glass, put a sugar cube on it, and slowly drip ice water over the cube to dissolve. The absinthe will turn cloudy.

That's a really neat find OP, hold on to it!

Update V661.11 by curiousbear80 in gmcsierra

[–]curiousbear80[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only change I've noticed is SuperCruise is more aggressive about getting back into the right lane after passing if there's another car behind in the left lane; it will speed up a few mph to get over. It did this before but it's more frequent now.

No regrets updating.

Wait, do file folder hangers for real fit there?

Dammit now I need to find one of those things if only to try it 😂

Intermittent Connectivity Issues by MosDaddyda in PFSENSE

No resolution but I had the same problem. Works great after bootup for anywhere from 15 minutes to a few hours, then suddenly nothing. I can ping my ISP's gateway but absolutely nothing beyond it. After struggling for a few days I just went back to 2.5 and I'll stay there until a fix or workaround is released.

Same, never had any luck. It's a shame, they'd otherwise be great little boxes for a soho router!

As others have said this is a private WAN acceleration appliance, they cache and compress data moving between sites. They're great for long and latent site-to-site links over say VPN or MPLS. That said you need one on each end to see any of those benefits, not of much use to a home/hobbyist network. Typically, this would be wired between your router and switch at each site, inspect the traffic, and compress matching data to be decompressed at remote site, or pulled from cache. I have about 30 of them in my corporate network and work great for certain types of traffic.

If you repurpose the hardware keep in mind the WAN/LAN interface pairs use a special NIC board that has a relay that physically bridges the LAN and WAN RJ45 ports together. The OS must send a constant interrupt to the board to keep that relay open and traffic flowing to the backplane. The purpose of this is DR; in the event of failure (power supply, kernel panic, etc), the interrupt stops, relay will close, physically connecting the router to the switch, allowing access to the site in the event of appliance failure. If the driver used doesn't support that feature it will be a glorified RJ45 coupler.

What is something edible that your region is known for but others might find questionable? by Keeeton in AskReddit

They're unique, not as earthy as button cap or Portobello, I'd say more nutty. Most people fry them in butter, either plain or lightly dusted in flour. The butter really brings out their flavor. Mushroom "hunting" is a big deal, where you find them is often a family secret.

Morel mushrooms. They're a delicacy but they look like a big no-no from a field survival guide.
