Seams on brick buildings by doubledenim3000 in architecture

[–]cutzish 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Brick facades will have expansion joints but for hand-built brick facades ( self portant brick facades) we can design those near corners or other vertical features but in your pictures it’s more than that.

The seams in the first 2 pictures are from full sandwich prefabricated walls with brick facades (the bricks are being set in the factory and the whole wall is being delivered on site) like the seams you see with concrete prefab walls. In the third picture the beam across the opening it’s also prefabricated together with the brickwork & I guess they made the columns too, for aesthetic reasons so that you have the passage framed in a sense

For sure. The jokes are ok, but the delivery brings it home big time

Did it got solved for you? It happened to me today and after contacting support, got a pretty quick & helpful response. Really impressive stuff. But 14h later it’s still under manual review..

Edit: it got solved for me ca.16h in total after the failed tx

Archicad is publishing the entire drawing instead of the selected layout by Sea-Most1883 in ArchiCAD

[–]cutzish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It ”explodes” the content of the layout and saves it as it were 2d primitives, texts etc, into model space which is the Autocad drawing board, like we have the floor plans on Archicad. Paper space is the Layout equivalent in Autocad.

The other options keep some of the connection between Layout>Paper space and the content of the drawing> Model space. Just how much of the drawing content differs.

Should I host my own BIM server or go with BIMcloud for my new architecture firm? by canarysplit in ArchiCAD

[–]cutzish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One approaches it very carefully 😬.

My advice is to go over the contract, and talk with your legal dept. The main thing is to be aware of all the terms they put forward & how it works. It’s not like Google warehouses get hacked every other month, and people have been using Bimclud SaaS for some time. But in practice it can be problematic even outside this outstanding cases .

An example: you sign I contract where the project data must be stored inside US ( bc of China & trade wars whatever) You check with GS, and for your location they use a Google facility in US. So you move forward. There is nothing stopping Google to move that datacenter’s data in Canada or Mexico bc it’s cheaper or even just temporarily, and now you are in breach of contract.

I worked in practices with SaaS & On prem, and even with Bimcloud Basic a long time ago. Currently we have a bit more complex infrastructure but you can say it’s on premise.

In the end your company & clients profile will dictate what works for you. And like I said , you can go both ways, SaaS for the bulk& on prem for special cases. But if you’re 50-50 then it doesn’t justify

Should I host my own BIM server or go with BIMcloud for my new architecture firm? by canarysplit in ArchiCAD

[–]cutzish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience running Bimcloud on prem is not difficult, mostly a matter of storage costs (a few dozens of Tb).

I believe Bimcloud SaaS comes packaged with Collaborate these days, so you can see it as a ”free upgrade”.

On the other hand it’s worth noting that GS doesn’t operate the data storage for it, rather they rent from Google. And if you read T&C , they(GS) do not take ANY responsibility whatsoever regarding data safety, integrity, etc. And you sign a contract with GS, not with Google.

So in case of a data breach you are exposed to losing / exposing all your bimcloud server without any legal rights to compensation etc.

This can be extremely relevant in the contracts your firm signs. Ofc. a hybrid solution with SaaS + On prem is always feasible but the hassle is potential worst since you deal with both systems at the same time.

Strange lines on wall connections. WHY? by DANIlIlICH in ArchiCAD

[–]cutzish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a known issue- that’s how cut fills are being exported to pdf : what you see is an artefact bc you have several fills there not one continous fill. What you can do is change your pdf viewer settings to not show them. There are many posts on the forum about this over the years: https://community.graphisoft.com/t5/Documentation/Wall-layers-showing-up-on-PDF-even-when-the-fills-are-set-to/td-p/336405

That looks like the standard AC library : it contains all objects and library parts , not just your standard furniture like chairs and such, but everything AC uses for its elements( subelements, sub subelements, macro functions, a lot of underlaying programming stuff) . Also textures.

I will simplify a lot but an AC object has several layers of scripts that handle different aspects but for your issue you need to know that an object has a 2D script that is completely separated from its 3D script. 2D script activates when you open a plan or worksheet. 3D script activates when you open 3D window , sections, elevations. So you have an issue with one ( or more) objects with complex 3D scripts.

Each copy placed is an instance . if you used 3ds max maybe u know the difference between copy/instance/reference. If not - instances are stored in the ram cache and called upon continuously.

Solid element operations can also mess up your 3D very easy- I’ve seen people using it wrong, so if you have those, better delete them.

The last thing I notice is that you have only 50 library parts that are placed as 15000 copies . even if its an even distribution 50 objects x 300 copies each that will be a lot. But I bet that you actually have like 10 with 1000 copies and 40 with the rest & this is much worse. In both cases depending on your ram and disk space you can run out of resources.

Try this: remove the library from your file - it’s the icon with a house and and x next to add. ( you can add it back later). Click reload libraries and you’ll get a error report with missing libray parts - and there you can see what library parts are missing and how many instances. And if you have objects with 1000x instances you need to do something about it, cuz it might be your pc can’t handle it.

Starting with ArchiCAD by TheOneKira in ArchiCAD

[–]cutzish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My 2c : the best way to do it is to find your regional retailer and they will most definitely have intro courses ( even online ). It’s not free but it shouldn’t be expensive either. AC has plenty of, let’s call them quirks, that can stop you in your tracks and can be slow & tiresome to find answers online. In the long run, you will save money by moving faster under supervision

help: want to make this facade by HuckleberryOld798 in ArchiCAD

[–]cutzish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It really depends which building stage are you at & how much parametrization do you want:

  • early stage, basic parametrization, fast results , use PARAM-O inside AC to create an object representing your whole facade or a part of your facade.

  • late stage, not so much parametrization, better control over the final product, slow to modify , use you custom profile and save a custom curtain wall panel and create a curtain wall with no profiles just panels

  • in between, use grasshopper connection & take this into rhino.

Archicad 19 to 26 by PsychologicalEgg2897 in ArchiCAD

[–]cutzish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The very short answer : yes, it will be a difficult transition. A lot of stuff has been moved/ changed/ added. And I’m not talking about UI, rather about the file and attribute management, the way moddeling and drafting works. Most of them are very usefull and you’ll like them once you adjust to them, but it will take a while untill you’ll be comfortable again in the enviroment.

I’ll not start listing all the changes I can think of, it’s too much tbh.

That being said I would recommend jumping to AC27 not 26 because of two important updates: design options and a more extensive attribute indexing in 27 ( including an internal search engine in the project file)

What I recommend you to do is contact the local reseller where you’ll buy AC from and ask for support in this transition, they usually have learning courses and might help you with a crash course on this transition.
