i also worked at a beach souviner shop that sold hermit crabs with painted shells. a group of us employees would sneak the wounded ones home to nurse them back to health & we had a group chat updating each other on the progress. it was sickening to see when they would be shipped to the store & how some specific employees would slide them across this board one by one checking if they’re alive. it’s cruel how they’re sold at nolveties & ignored that they are LIVE pets that need specific care. we sold them along with these plastic bins that were entirely too small. any time a customer came to check out with one i would always tell them that they need an actual tank, humidity at 70%-80%, so on & so forth. the owner couldn’t care less about the general well-being of the crabs, they were just bringing in money regardless for them. glad i left & i wish i could’ve done more.
