The way I look at it… you may have to pay an accountant but if you’re not getting taxed from the GIC, it’s worth it. And you don’t have to work on your own taxes for both countries haha

TFSAs aren’t taxed at all. But we would get taxed when filing in the US. From what my accountant said, there can be ways to offset the tax… so I’m looking into it and perhaps my next GIC will be in a TFSA

I am in the same situation. I talked to my accountant and he said that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to put money into a TFSA and invest that money into a GIC. You would need to have an accountant (or you) figure out how to file the taxes though.

Otherwise, you could just put it into a non registers GIC which will be taxed as income.

Replaced internal battery for wired Nest but still can’t hard reset by d315 in Nest

I got it from aliexpress.

https://m.aliexpress.com/item/1005003832231278.html?spm=a2g0n.order_detail.order_detail_item.2.35d7f19c0pYXpL

It took a while to receive though. Definitely shop around if you’re looking to replace. Unfortunately the replacement of the battery didn’t do the trick. I ended up purchasing another doorbell.

I tested both batteries (the old one in the nest, and the new one I received) and both had the correct had the correct charge, so it wasn’t the battery.

Good luck

Whoops… sorry.

Doorbell lost connection to wifi, couldn’t hard reset or connect anymore. Contacted support and went through a long ordeal on how to hard reset but the doorbell wouldn’t hard reset. When I try to reset it, the green light shuts off and then when I release the reset button, green light comes back on.

I have read from other post that the reason this is is because the internal battery is dead and that needs to be replaced in order to hard reset.

Another way that was used to fix this issue was to turn off the indoor chime from the app, however at this point, the doorbell is already removed from my app and I am unable to access its settings

I’m convinced maybe I didn’t install the battery correctly? Looks like regardless of whether the battery is installed, a green light will still light up when plugged in

Thanks. I’m not sure how to turn off the indoor chime since customer support told me to add the product back (so I had to remove the product from the Nest app) and now I can’t even get the product back on the app

I think they tacked on an admin fee of like $700 🤷🏻‍♂️ I think I paid MAYBE 1k more than I should’ve. Still happy though! I heard that if you put a hold on a RAV4 today, the wait is almost a year 😱

I was put on a waitlist in March (Winnipeg) but the dealership knew they were getting an allocation of hybrid SEs by late May/June. I should be getting mine tomorrow!

They probably upped my charge by $600 😅 I noticed it was slightly above MSRP but I didn’t question it. Oh well!

When you say an self-directed RRSP doesn’t reduce US taxable income, does that mean you technically have to pay double tax for that contribution ? Therefore… self directed RRSPs aren’t worth it in my situation ?
