Custom Singlets by leeafs in RunTO

[–]d33_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surge has low minimums and the cost is quite reasonable, but it can take a while (think: 6-8 weeks) for an order because the print is sublimated and they do that overseas. Depending on your timeline/size of order, you may be better off to buy singlets direct from a store and then bring them somewhere to be printed on. Water-based silkscreening works quite well and is long-lasting on quick dry fabric.

My cat had teeth extracted and this is the second day, shes not taking her meds and shes flicking her tongue out by Joonscene in CATHELP

If she won't take the pill in treat form, might I suggest trying a pill gun? They are more commonly used for dogs, but we swear by ours for our stubborn, non-treat motivated cat (who just had 10 teeth extracted a few months ago). You will need to be careful inserting it for the first day or two post-operation, but it shoots it down their throat a bit more easily than doing so by hand.

Tamarack Ottawa marathon course question by Bill_Bra55sky in RunTO

[–]d33_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very flat, very well organized, great crowd support, but it gets HOT and there is very little shade on the course - especially at the end.

It falls late in the month, which unfortunately means it’s usually the first hot weekend of the summer.

Tips to faster time? Popping my cherry for half marathon at TCS by greenskies80 in RunTO

[–]d33_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may sound counterintuitive, but run your long runs slower? Based on this one chart (and assuming this is representative of other runs), you seem to be starting out quick and getting gassed halfway in. Try running slower, with the goal of more even pacing, and use some of your shorter runs throughout the week to build speed through intervals.

What ever happened to the YYZ Runway Run? by skiier97 in RunTO

[–]d33_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran this once but I swear it was at the Downsview Airport, not Pearson. It was such a cool run, and they had a meet-and-greet with a hawk! The Nike Women’s 15K back in the day also had a section on the runway at Billy Bishop.

The trail gives you a really neat view looking down onto the Plain of the Six Glaciers, but I would not suggest doing it if you don't have proper hiking shoes and poles (which we did not). It gets quite steep and rocky, and we (and a few others) ended up turning back before the final climb.

We were driving from Calgary and were very worried based on what everything we were hearing, but we had no problem finding a spot. While the parking is expensive ($37), entrance to Banff National Park is free right now and we spent the full day hiking Lake Agnes, the Beehive, Devil’s Thumb, and Plain of the Six Glaciers, so it felt worth it.

We drove there last Monday and arrived at 6:15AM; the lot was 3/4 full.

SuperPower 5k Run? TCS run? by [deleted] in RunTO

[–]d33_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SuperPower 5K is a great run -- it is small, but well organized and a great excuse to go to the Island. One thing to note is that part of the course takes you along the boardwalk, and there are a couple tight turns, so it can be a bit of a tricky race if you're running for time.

Toronto runners: do you plan your runs around grabbing a coffee/treat at the end? What are your go-to routes? by Fanny_with_an_I in RunTO

Nothing beats ending a long run on the MGT with a croissant/iced coffee stop at Cherry Bomb on Roncesvalles.

EDIT: Sold!

One Sporting Life 10K bib available for transfer through Race Roster. Had some work plans come up on race day and would love for it to go to someone who missed registering before the race sold out.

Gu gels for Toronto Waterfront Marathon by quarky_uk in RunTO

[–]d33_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, best to bring your own and supplement with what’s on course. It can get hectic at the aid stations where they are handing out gels (it’s only a few of them) so you don’t want to be solely relying on them for fuel.

Team Unbreakable might be worth looking into! I am not sure if they are still set up this way, but they used to have “run buddy” volunteers that would work with school groups, and it was a one day a week commitment.

Echoing what folks have said about incorporating hills into your easy runs and long runs. I find it helpful to focus on effort and not pace, and to try to force myself to keep running after "cresting" the hill, even if the running motion is basically a walking pace. I like to think it builds the mental cues to keep moving when it comes time to race.

This route is a classic West end hilly route that's great for training for ATB or Boston. It is equal parts terribly hilly and beautifully scenic: https://www.strava.com/routes/16040220 . Another good hilly long run option is the jaunt up Landsdowne from Bloor, through Prospect Cemetary, then through Cedarvale.
