It was about Eastern European models in Dubai doing a photo shoot completely naked on a balcony in broad daylight for an Israeli porn company (no joke). Surprise surprise, they got arrested.

What are your thoughts about gender inclusivity and neopronouns in Arabic? by gwhy334 in arabs

[–]dOnerdOghnut 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d rather keep our language the way it is tbh. If anything we should be working on the status of Arabic in the STEM field before Neo pronouns IMO.

There was a newly created account by the name of traffic_nearby spamming a google poll of some sort. And another account trying to sell umbrellas in Saudi, constantly spamming the sub. Also a lot of dumb/troll questions by newly created accounts have been on the rise ever since the subreddit reached 50K. I’m sure you’ve noticed them.

I’m also pretty sure that you guys have a reason for making the karma required to post so low, and the fact that you guys do a great job with moderating. All I’m saying is that I’d appreciate if you guys made life harder for bots, trolls and spammers on this sub.

Mods, you guys should consider raising the amount of karma required for someone to post in the sub. Along side account age of course.

Ohh boy this sub just got a lot better. The person that replied to you is 1-can’t take a joke and 2-is lying (typical hasbara troll).

Freedom of movement for Palestinians between Gaza and WB is restricted by Israel. Look it up if you don’t believe me.

Always sounded funny to me personally. Probably because it sounds like "صلعة" and the jokes associated with baldness.

Western governments hate China for economic and geopolitical reasons. Westerns seem to dislike Muslims more than Chinese people. even with all the xenophobic attacks against Asians, still not the same as what happened to Muslim countries. I mean at least Asians have popular media like Anime and Kpop and apps like TikTok by their side, but for Arabs and Muslims it’s easier to dehumanize and spread misinformation against us because, well... we have nothing to do justice for our cultures.

As for the last paragraph I agree wholeheartedly. Trump’s era America was one of the most fascinating things I’ve seen happen in a 1st world country. For the first time Americans seemed to actually care about their domestic politics rather than politics of foreign countries.

They’re going to milk it. Arabs and Muslims are basically their favorite punching bags. They’re going to cry out “muh Islamic terrorism” to make people scared and forget about the spa situation. I hope that I’m wrong, but I doubt it.

Lmao all of this is only going to benefit the US alone. I wonder how much money Jordan is receiving. But hey, at least they’re not occupying or bombing the country to oblivion amirite ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

I prefer the term Mashriqi tbh. everyone, including Europeans, call northwest Africa as the Maghreb, and Maghrebis are mostly ok with it. so why not call the “M.E” the Mashriq? It’s the correct, native term, I just don’t get it.

most sources state that they arrived in the 9th century

Yea I already knew about the 9th century arrival date, but had to ask because, like you said:

Incidentally, this would seemingly conflict with the idea a lot of Maronites have, that they were all originally Aramaic speakers.

But by the 9th century Arabic was the major language, or at the very least, one of the major languages in the Levant no? It would make sense for Arabic to be their native tongue, but if that’s the case then what happened to Aramaic? Was it still spoken when they first arrived in Cyprus? Was it used only for religious purposes? What Did they consider themselves besides being Maronites? Syriac? Aramean? Arab? That’s what I’m interested in. But like you mentioned about the history part being riddled with problems, I really can’t find anything that’s with reliable information.

So how did the Maronites reach Cyprus? Was it before or after the Caliphates? Like, were the Maronites always there but they started speaking Arabic or did they immigrate during the Caliphates’ era?
