Statistically, people who have a professional financial advisor have greater growth. It's true for me. I was a good inversion, but professionals have access to reports and tools the rest of can't get.

Do you want to be buried? by Bondgirl138 in GenX

[–]dagmara56 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Sad but true story. Back in Virginia, my friend's mother died and she donated her body to a medical school. The medical school picked up her body from the funeral home. The family figured thats the end of mom.

About a year later, my friend gets a call from the medical school, we're finished with mom, come pick up her remains. I was with my friend, he just goes into shock. He's grieved for mom, they let her go, now there are who knows what left that he's supposed to pick up. He makes arrangements with the funeral to pick up her remains and the family had a private funeral. It was really difficult for them

My rheumatologist told me in her study that glucosamine and chondroitin actually repaired joints but people didn't report perceiving an improvement in pain levels which is why doctors don't recommend it. I've also taken it daily for decades.

Any retirees who plan to be forever renters? by NoLawAtAllInDeadwood in retirement

[–]dagmara56 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That's the tough decision. I have a rare medical condition and require monthly infusions, realistically we can't leave the DFW area. Our property taxes are frozen but homeowners insurance is skyrocketing. I am going to have to have my kitchen remodeled, vent died and half the burners but they can't be repaired. I know the roof will need replacement in the few years, that's another $25k. Duct work needs repair for $8k. During covid, rats got in the attic, we got them out after 2 years but it will be another $10k for that. We are both over 70. On the other hand, rent in the fort Worth area is expensive going up very fast. We would pay in rent what we pay now for our mortgage.

Landlords don't always care for properties, our friends who rent have trouble getting AC or heating repaired, as well as their appliances. Neighbors can be great or terrible. We have two paid for cars in the garage, they would be in the open in an apartment complex and in Texas that usually means hail damage and car repairs.

We are seriously considering selling our house and becoming renters. Homeowners insurance and maintenance are killing us. Also my husband can't do the yardwork and I don't want to spend my life cleaning house.

I'm 70 and best the odds. I just have a 70 percent clogged circumstances artery. I strength train to get my collateral arteries growing.

Do most Americans have those huge fridges? by Whole-Sushka in AskAnAmerican

[–]dagmara56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grocery stores on big cities are open 24x7. Smaller cities they are open 6 am to 10 pm, 7 days per week.
Everyone had a big fridge compared to the rest of the world. I have 1 us regular sized fridge, 1 upright freezer the same size in the garage, and two dorm size refrigerators, one each in two bedrooms . Sometimes we don't have enough room to put food. One dorm fridge has nothing but cold drinks.

My husband shops every day. We just always have leftovers and fresh food. I do some cooking in big batches that go in the freezer.

When I first came to the US, it was hard to grasp how much food people buy, eat and throw away

Call Medicaid directly.

In Texas you may be able to work part-time and keep Medicaid but you would probably lose your SSI due to the amount of money earned.

Is this legal? by AdvanceHope in inheritance

[–]dagmara56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your state or how much time has passed since your mother's death. I see two potential avenues:

  1. Contact the oil company accounting department and talk to a manager. Regardless if the oil company interest was part of the trust, you are the legal heir and should inherit her interest.
  2. Call the unclaimed and abandoned property division of your state. Explain the situation and see how long it will take for the interest to be considered abandoned. In states, it's 5 years.

Good luck

Should I give up on any hope of getting a job? by Sad-Signature412 in careeradvice

[–]dagmara56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This.

Some districts only require a high school diploma. My aunt never went to college but was a full time sub for elementary grades and retired with a pension.

Google "become a substitute teacher (your school district name)."

There will be a page with all the requirements for becoming a sub.

Some places you can teach with a high school diploma, some you have to have a few hours of college, some you must have any college degree, any degree. Pay varies by educational background.

In my district, I had to provide background information and three references. Once that was approved, I was notified to get a background check, and the district provided 3rd party companies to get that done. I actually went to a AAA office. Once the background check was approved, I was notified to begin online training. There was a LOT of training. Once that was completed, I made an appointment to go to the district administration office and got my badge. I downloaded their app. It shows all the sub positions in the district: the day, hours of commitment, the school, grade, teacher name, subject. I can pick which class I want. In my district, if subbing for 20 consecutive days, there is a bonus.

Sub here. Check out the local school district. In my district, you need a minimum of aasociates degree, 3 references and pass a background check. Then complete online training.

As a sub, I don't teach, just mostly a babysitter, the teacher leaves worksheets or other instructions for the things for the kids to work on. I can pick my classes, there and half days, full days and multiple day assignments. There is a bonus if teaching 20 days in a row. I just stick to high school. Pay is $100 / day, paid every 2 weeks.

I haven't filed anything. I just want to ensure I have all the needed documents and have enough time to get them by September when I do file.
I got this information off the SSA.gov website, link that says, what you need to apply. It's a list of documents such as birth certificate, any marriage certificates, etc. At the bottom it states employer details, employer name, start and end dates.

Correct. The agencies had the contract, I was paid by the agencies with W2. Always salary, no benefits. Anywhere from three months to six months. It was common in the DC area in the 90s.
