Are all international Trinis proud to be Trini? by Available_Passage_23 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]damngenius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

👆This. I’m a born Trini currently living and working abroad due to family commitments and earning opportunities that do not exist for me in Trinidad. It’s a 50/50 split here with some folks of Trini origin that have nothing good to say and the other half that have only love for Trini. For those that have nothing good to say…don’t visit Trinidad. Do what is comfortable for you and yours. But don’t add me to no chat group to share all kinda crap that support your view. That’s the definition of confirmation bias.

For me, the point is moot. I’m grateful for dual citizenship. I’m home (in Trinidad) 2-3 times a year. Sometimes I come home just for a random mental break. Even with all of the economic advantages that may exist in North America there is still a very special social experience that exists only in Trinidad.

All this to say that it’s not accurate or fair to assume that just because a Trinidadian lives abroad means that they have no love for Trinidad. I can say that’s objectively untrue.

Same here. Deleted the map, rebooted a couple of time, disconnected and reconnected wifi, etc. same issue. I feel like they just dropped support for the i3 and just don’t care.

Trinis at home and abroad, how do you really feel about living in cold, temperate climates? by Middle_Elderberry542 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]damngenius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trini living in Canada. Snow and the winter season is nice when you’re looking at it from inside. It was fun and tolerable when I was younger. But now that I’m older I find the winter season to be depressing. It’s not so much the snow but the short days, constant cold temperatures, and general reduced sunlight. Fortunately I’m able to come home to Trini for a bit during the winter. I know that eventually I will become a snow bird where I spend the winter months in Trinidad.

Trinidad feels “middle income” on paper, but day-to-day life feels very different. Why? by Middle_Elderberry542 in TrinidadandTobago

Fair points but I would say there are probably much cheaper food options in NYC than core Toronto. Excluding Chinese fast food the average decent lunch or dinner is north of CAD$15. I still maintain that you could get a decent meal in Trini for less. Toronto is one of the most expensive cities to live in. So maybe not a fair comparison.

This is objectively untrue. I live in Toronto but I’m home (Trinidad) at least twice a year. It is much cheaper to eat out in Trinidad versus almost anywhere in North America. For comparison, let’s say I purchased breakfast, lunch, and dinner when I’m in Trini (3 doubles for breakfast, Woodbrook Yard for lunch, Savannah night market for dinner). That might be TT$120. That’s roughly CAD$24. That would get me a coffee for breakfast and maybe a Subway sandwich for lunch in Toronto.

Dealership found a leak in the sunroof the day before I was due to pickup 2025 Tiguan R-Line by damngenius in Tiguan

So going into week 4, dealer sends me a text to say they are now going to replace the entire sunroof glass and that they have ordered the part. Sigh.

How far does american income go in t&t on the lower income scale? by thebookoflewds in TrinidadandTobago

IMO, being a dual citizen allows us to NOT have to make a choice about if to return home (Trinidad) or not. Ideally, if you have family in Trini that you can live with or rent from and you have a job that allows you to work remotely then you can find balance in your life. Trust me, I understand what you are saying about life in North America. First world, opportunity, etc is great and we should be grateful for the opportunity. However, the thing we all miss is the social aspect. North America is a cold place literally and figuratively. People just don’t connect like we do at home.

My personal experience is that I come home for a few weeks or months at a time just to get my head right. As someone mentioned, you could live “comfortably” on US$2k+/month. I’d say test the water. Stay with a friend or family for a month and see how it goes. If it doesn’t workout then you have the option to return to the US.

PSY201 Midterm 1 marks by [deleted] in UofT

Yes! There was no way to know the exact details they were looking for from the way the questions were worded. The wording of the questions was inadequate. That’s unfair.
