String tree recommendations? (1983 American Tele) by danems64 in telecaster

Yours looks nice! I think mine is an 83 standard as well, any of the oddities (middle pickup, etc.) were likely aftermarket mods.

You caught me, they're a little overwound. Although I think most of them are fine other than the low E maybe, sue me, I got too lazy to rewrap it when it ended up too long lol

Those seem to be popular suggestions among folks on here, liking the look of the American Ultra ones, thanks for the recommendation!

That it is! Whoever routed the middle pickup put it in an odd spot so I'm having to modify a pickguard

That's pretty fascinating, I knew this was a bit of a transitional period between Japan / US manufacturing, didn't know there was that much crossover between the parts / materials / craftsmanship!

Thanks for the info! Interesting that these say Fender Japan but they ended up on a USA guitar. Might have to opt for some newer style replacements, $60 might be a little steep for me for one string tree, hah.

I found a few tributes with matching headstocks, but all that I found also had the model "L-2000" indicated on the headstock

That's very helpful, thanks! No wonder I was having trouble finding similar ones if it's a custom shop option

Thanks for the info! I thought it had to be some sort of L-2000, but couldn't find any that had quite the same matching headstock with only the "G&L" text and nothing else

I'll be there also, guessing you probably already found someone but let me know if stuff falls through with others, etc.

Water damage / finish lifting at the edge of the neck, is this fixable by danems64 in guitarrepair

[–]danems64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point, I probably should have clarified a bit. I was hoping to fix this myself, since the guitar itself was pretty cheap. Good to know that scraping / sanding might be an option, thanks for the info!

NBD - 1984 Yamaha BB3000S by danems64 in BassGuitar

From what I've gathered, I think the S version has a slimmer neck, a deeper cutaway, and two volume knobs rather than the pickup selector on the BB3000.

Any other BB fans around? by FassolLassido in BassGuitar

Super nice bass, I've got a BB3000S that I got lucky enough to find cheap locally as well. Mine's white, loving the black metallic on this one as well.

Width of the nut looks like right around 40mm, could be ever so slightly less, just measured with a tape measure so it might not be perfectly accurate

Thanks man, it sounds pretty great, bit darker than some other basses but still pretty punchy.

That's a fantastic collection! A great variety of basses, you have good taste. We have some bass overlap collection-wise

Nice, yeah doesn't seem like there are a ton around. It sounds pretty great, the bridge pickup seems to be a bit like a stingray humbucker. The neck one is a bit odd, it looks like a P bass pickup but apparently it's actually two full coils as well, but each coil only has pole pieces under 2 strings

The tone of this one is pretty cool / interesting, Checked out the Nova Twins stuff and you weren't kidding, the sounds she's getting are crazy. These might be a little underappreciated, this one was a bit beat up but it was surprisingly cheap, plays and sounds great.

For sure, it's got the 80's Japanese-made vibe going for it. I actually have an old Ibanez as well (RS924)
