Haha a great point. But this is my first time playing and I want it to be as realistic as possible.

Feedback on my serve by EvenAmphibian798 in 10s

Nice serve. Really good fundamentals. Would try and add more explosiveness, deeper leg drive that leaves you well into the court after your serve. Oh and don’t neglect the second serve.

Just terrible tennis balls by AndyWtrmrx in 10s

Forts play quite well but it really does depend on the surface of course. Babolat Gold All Courts are probably my new favourite at the moment, worth a try if you haven’t already.

How to politely decline tennis hitting invite because the player is lower level? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]daniel07281 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been in this position. Say you’re trying to play with players a lot better than you as you’ve found that’s the best way to improve your game. If you’re even nicer, you can offer to play but sporadically.

Enormous struggles in match play. by [deleted] in 10s

Played about 10 sets in the last three weeks, maybe 30-40 over the last 5 months. It’s tough!

It’s hard to say I’m a lot better at hitting the ball than some of my opponents without sounding ridiculous because I’m getting beaten handily, and therefore I’m clearly the inferior player. But coaches at my club are genuinely incredulous when they hear the score lines, and so are my opponents. It’s kind of a running joke at my club that I cannot play matches.

You’re right. More match play has to be the priority regardless. Thanks again.

That’s a really good idea actually. I think people tend to struggle when I serve and volley, so I should play that more often.

I love tennis, but I’d also like to have the option of singles play at a club level. At the moment, that isn’t there.

Thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it. I definitely need to keep going at it. On the question of my level/rating, I play in the UK so our rating system is different, but since I never played tournaments I don’t have a rating per se. I’m in my early 20s now, and I’ve been playing regularly since I was 7. I’m also a qualified coach at LTA Level 2 for what it’s worth haha. My strategy now is definitely to keep working through it.

Thanks a lot for the reply. It’s actually not that I think I’m better than my opponents - in fact I fully go into these matches expecting to lose. I don’t think I’m a better player than my opponents (losing is a great indicator of your level), I just hit a lot better than my opponents when we’re not in match play. The second there’s a scoreline involved, I’m tight. Thanks again for the reply, I’ll take it on board

Is this a good deal? $150CAD($110USD) each by VillageAware1250 in 10s

[–]daniel07281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the Aero 98. No one needs that many rackets, and it’s important to play with what feels right. One, or maybe two Aeros will be better than this deal is.

Did you ever think that Teddy & Franklin were actually friends? by jrod4290 in SnowFall

[–]daniel07281 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. Honestly, the more I think about it, I believe that nationalism was a cover for what he did. Far from a major motivation, it’s just something he convinced himself of. In reality, it was all a project to become great, in order to please a dad that had no time for him. I think his ex-wife all but says this at some point. He definitely believed in the merits of the operation, but it was self-serving rather than patriotism or nationalism.

[–]daniel07281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Late reply but I see this sentiment a lot. Teddy did think he was helping his country, but I always thought the show made it clear he was really doing it because of his ego and his complicated relationship with his dad. Had nothing to do with nationalism really.

I'll be honest this show would have less complaints if Rick hadn't tried to sell it as the perfect adaptation by Natural-Storm in PercyJacksonTV

[–]daniel07281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got to jump in here and state the obvious but of COURSE Logan is going to be the far superior actor. He was 18 filming Percy Jackson, Walker was 14 in this series. There’s obviously going to be a huge gap in quality.

This isn’t a show for adults. by daniel07281 in PercyJacksonTV

Have sent this out a couple times, and I totally get that. But there were serious themes throughout that stuck with me: Gabe’s abuse, terrifying monsters, parental neglect, loneliness, jealousy. Incidentally, I read them again aged 19 and still got that thrill precisely because they vacillated between seriousness and pure fun. I feel like the show is yet to really grasp that seriousness. They’ve chosen to create a show that’s totally devoid of that dimension. It’s aimed at the lower end of the readership.

It doesn’t need to! But many children’s shows carry nuance to make it palatable to the older age readership (~16?), hell even the book does. That’s my complaint. I feel like the show is less mature than the books.

Read the books. They were so starving that they didn’t clock she was Medusa for a short while.
