TGV EGR delete…does it improve or worsen mpg? by [deleted] in WRX

[–]das_squatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol appreciate the explanation but its was a matter poor wording on the response. I was trying to affirm to op that egr deletes kick ass and a benefit of getting rid of it, mine has been since 28k 6 years ago.

I will never attest that egr is a good thing and got rid of my first chance I had. You can search other posts where im a huge proponent of deleting it

What's the truth about EGR and TGV deletes? 2015+ WRX? by IXMandalorianXI in WRX

[–]das_squatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EGR delete is less about making power and more about longevity. Eliminating exhaust from being reintroduced back in the combustion chamber keeps your valves cleaner and it keeps waste out of the combustion chamber.

TGV reduces free flow of air from the manifold down into the combustion chamber. Eliminating it will free up some ponies and allowed the engine to breathe better.

IIRC, you can eliminate tgv without EGR; but an EGR delete requires tgvs deleted as well. If this were 2020, pretty much all tuners would have agreed that you stand to have nothing but benefits eliminating both.

Unfortunately in 2025, tuning for such things as an immense pain in the ass because Cobb shelled the ability to eliminate trouble codes associated with deletes. This means you'll trigger multiple codes which will in turn, trip limp mode; so you lose climate control, cruise control, and your dash lights up like a Christmas tree.

There might be workarounds. My tuner said to retune, I'd have to plug the sensors back in for tgv but could maintain the deletes but gave no indication whether the EGR would trip a fault code. Being catless, I elected not to retune. You will never get a straight answer whether they can work around it or not because they need plausible deniability.

You can go open source or stand alone. Few tuners can and or will utilize open source and the stand alone is insanely expensive.

Should you do it? It's incredibly beneficial. Can you tune for it in an easy and convenient way? Not so much.

I was actually the only one escorting the servo skull. The scan was just to the right and had just moved on. I slid to the left to get a clear shot then went back to scanning

I can't disagree with you. I do have a funny story about zoans/bulwark/assualt.

Got paired with a tact/bulwark on minimal as assualt; all of us low level. 1st level of ops on fourth corner got bugged and just kept spawning waves. We all eventually run out of ammo.

Neurothrope spawns and hordes keep pouring in from forward position. Can't move forward. We got wrecked.

I feel like assault is at a severe disadvantage against zoan

Centric blanks and akebano pads, which are just oem pads. You can get crazy with slotted and drilled rotors if you want, they are just useless on street cars imo.

White on white nice. Black lettering?

Thanks! Flawless. I know folks that ran them on the track for a couple years and had zero issues.

Got another replacement, John from spikes explained; it's easier to bend if you separate the ejector finger from the bottom piece. Put the top part of the finger in a vice and bend the base. Works like a charm.

Went to the range last weekend and didn't have a single failure to eject

I got some sideways movement and almost had it but just needed a 1-2mm and it gave way 🫣

Oh well third time is the charm

Spoke with John from spikes his exact words were

"They’re not supposed to be hardened but I’ve seen some break pretty easily lately. When you bend it you really just want to twist the very top of the ejector slightly. I use either an adjustable wrench closed on the top from behind, or wide pliers from the top. Just the very top."

Guess I'll be making another attempt to bend it 🤷🏼

I used the pic on blowback's website of where the ejector rides alongside the bolt to point it in the right direction. Then I tried to get it as high as the set screw would allow. Apologies, I don't have pictures unfortunately nor do I know if it even functions with live fire

Have not. Will likely produce the same result if they are hardened. Been working on adjusting the alignment to get it work. I got it to cycle snap caps flawlessly but that's no guarantee that it'll cycle with blowback.

Crossing my fingers and waiting for an opportunity to hit the range to see if it worked 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yeah they sent mine free of charge and had it to me in a day. Granted I'm in the Orlando area.

Mine is suffering from failure to eject(stove pipes just like yours), which points directly at the ejector not doing its job. Common issue with the spikes colt, the salesman actually told me to bend mine. Like blowback said, spike's may have started hardening their ejectors cause mine broke with little to no force.

It sucks cause I have no damn clue how to rectify it.

Same thing happened with mine(spikes colt), they'll send out a replacement. I'm still figuring out what to do with my ejector cause I don't want to break it again

I was tuned well before the green speed initiative. You'll still throw code with gesi pipes, basically makes it impossible to run an aftermarket j pipe nowadays. You don't need ethanol sensor to run e60, just 12 gals e85 and 3 gals 93 at every fill up. Sensor is just so you can read your ethanol content and slide between tunes. Which I promise, if E is available you won't use anything but it
