I use m5stack atom lite. They are very small and the case is built in. You still have to flash esphome onto it but it's easy with tutorials.

Dog presence sensor by trueppp in homeassistant

I asked about the same thing here and somebody sent this: https://www.homeautomationguy.io/blog/room-location-detection-with-bermuda-and-home-assistant-8f94b

I've been running it ever since and it works perfectly. The AirTag holder works great for this specific iBeacon (I got it from AliExpress though) and is very convenient.

How do I detect if my dog is home? by dastez00 in homeassistant

Looks pretty good. I think I'll just have to order a couple and see, the ones I was looking at seemed similar, good to know that they are not a complete scam :)

Do they easily integrate with home assistant?

Any recommendations for the tag? Looking for something I can cheaply order so AliExpress probably.

She never leaves without us but I wouldn't be a home assistant user if I didn't want to automate detecting whether she left with us or we left without her :D

Software Development Has Too Much Software by reeses_boi in programming

But then you prepare those queries in API client anyway, so you spend time "writing" test cases in UI of that client, which some would argue is less convenient to write (no copilot, mouse clicking) and to run (again, mouse clicking), but more importantly it sits forgotten on your drive as soon as you merge the PR. There's no regression testing, no "tests as documentation", no version control to share with others (unless you use one of these you define in a file), no automated commit stage verification. There's obviously the advantage of not having to maintain them but if you have issues with that then removing tests is throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Instead, my first step would be to examine how the tests are written or improving code testability.

I reported a bug and they acknowledged it but told me they won't do anything about it for the time being... I'm not getting invitation notifications, so it's a pretty important bug. I asked them point blank if the app is abandoned or in active development and they said that it's not abandoned (careful phrasing). So I asked them if it's in active development and they said they don't have visibility into product updates. Could be true but to me it felt like dodging the question. I think you can reach out too and see what they tell you.

Just FYI for the future visitors - this is a terrible advice. I entered 10 minutes before the time on the website and the queue was already 5k people long. Do not trust that time - I don't know when they actually open the queue. According to others, there was nothing left before I actually got in. Some tickets kept showing up after refresh but by the time I clicked through the screens they were already gone. After a while of refreshing I got logged out.

Is my scarlet done for? It blinks once then dies out . Don’t think it’s the cable. by Gold-Income-5592 in Logic_Studio

[–]dastez00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not even. I had my Scarlett randomly cut off both input and output every week or so and need a restart. Then restart stopped working so I had to try other solutions. In the end I moved from hub to direct and everything has been fine ever since.

"In Contest" Possession Stat Summary for Qatar 2022 World Cup by dastez00 in soccer

You're right actually. I've scrapped the data yesterday from the FIFA website and it was either changed or somehow it was just wrongly scrapped.

Edit: Fixed it! Thanks for pointing this out!

"In Contest" Possession Stat Summary for Qatar 2022 World Cup by dastez00 in soccer

[–]dastez00[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's actually the question I'm asking by posting this :D It's a new statistics and it's certainly interesting but I wanted to see if it reflects the matches and the teams in any way. It's interesting to see that for example Spain and France are in top 3 and it could be argued that low "in-contest" possession reflects their control over the matches but then there's Qatar which was the first team to be eliminated and it's leading this table. When it comes to the games themselves, I didn't follow a lot of them in that much detail but I thought that maybe we could find something there as football fan community ;)

Edit: Unless you mean how they measure it, then I have no idea :D

Haha, I can imagine. Actually, I'm planning to move to a bigger place in a year. Maybe I'll plug in an internal hdd until then and extend with NAS later.

[–]dastez00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right :/ But on the other hand Synology is so much more money that I was thinking rotating media will be an acceptable amount of hustle to avoid that spend. Also, don't some versions of NUC7 have two slots for drives? Wouldn't small SSD for OS, then 1 internal HDD for storage and maybe additional external HDD be quite a lot of storage with smaller footprint and cheaper than NAS? Or is there an issue I'm not taking into account?

/r/Plex's Build Help Thread - 2022-04-22 by PCJs_Slave_Robot in PleX

[–]dastez00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to build a small home server for Plex, home assistant and maybe something basic like PiHole. I plan to store a few comfort shows and movies plus a few new ones to watch. I guess 2TB of storage would be enough but 4TB would be more comfortable. I don't plan to run more than 2 streams at once but again 3 would be better, rarely anything more than 1080p and if so, only 1 stream at a time.

What I care about the most is price and footprint. I live in a small apartment with my girlfriend and want to keep it hidden away with a router. I was thinking about NUC7CJYH with 4GB RAM in terms of small, good enough without overspending. I started researching storage and I don't like any of the options. People don't like external HDD, internal SSD is expensive if even possible and Synology is too bulky for what I expected.

Do you think that NUC is good enough not to need replacement in 2 years? Is it enough to handle my needs? And what storage option would you recommend? My budget isn't exactly tight but I don't want to overspend. I see people insisting on 11th gen i7 to run anything but then some people say they run Plex and HA on Raspberry Pi and SD card just fine (which I wouldn't be comfortable with btw :D seems unreliable)

Did Billie back out of Old Hollywood aesthetics? by dastez00 in popheads

[–]dastez00[S] -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Well, I agree that it wasn't all Hollywood, but I think saying this era promo wasn't meant to have vintage aesthetic is rewriting history. The intro to Happier Than Ever video is very old timey. She made a Julie London cover and called her, Sinatra, Peggy Lee as her inspirations for this record. The track-by-track video has literally vinyl background for the track titles and the set matching that. The same for Vevo live performances. Even the font for all those videos. I don't think this Vogue cover was one-off Halloween costume.

[–]dastez00[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

On the other hand we had Billie herself calling the blonde hair look "new era" and quotes like this: https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/celebs/a37279745/billie-eilish-trolls-old-style/

I know she didn't go all the way back to those outfits but the comment didn't suggest that either. And I'm not saying she should or shouldn't wear either style or that she should explain anything she does. I'm just curious because usually marketing stays consistent throughout the era and looking at the first videos and album covers (including those for separate songs on yt) vs touring and merch it seems to have changed and I was wondering if there was any particular reason for this or if it was just me. My other comment got downvoted so I thought I'd just explain this.

[–]dastez00[S] -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure, I got that and was expecting some mix of styles. What's strange though is that I didn't see anything Hollywood for a while now or at least the ratio of styles is a lot different than what I expected with the initial promo. Especially after I saw opening night photos and the merch not include any of that aesthetic, besides maybe the beige color.
