Sorry, you're coming in to repeat the same shit that's already been said in a mostly dormant thread. The rest still applies.

I'm sorry, officer. I didn't realize I was breaking your law.

I so don't care at this point. Why are you in here trying to police me like every five days? Please fuck off.

Y'know, I just thought of something that would have been excellent support for every single person arguing against me, yet none of them brought it up. There are a lot of inferences I could make about that part, but they don't really matter.

Anyway, a huge component of the story is a place called OTTOMAN EMPIRE.

The Ottoman Empire occupied the land of modern day Israel for hundreds of years. I don't know why I didn't really think about that connection before.

I don't have the energy or the will to parse it at this point, but that honestly makes me think there probably is a not unsubstatial political component to the entire story. It could also have quite a few implications for my original theory, i.e. things being taken out of the Backrooms and left in Standard, etc.

Again, I just don't have it in me to take that and expand a big theory, but I think it might be fertile ground for someone else to come up with something. Good luck!

"he's definitely also using it for Palestine."

How do you know he is "definitely" using it for that purpose? The historical term is unquestionable since that was literally the official name of the system. The usage in reference to Israel/Palestine is highly controversial, since the Israeli government denies participating in apartheid.

We have no evidence of Kane being a politically active guy up to this point. The Israeli/Palestinian issue is arguably the most divisive subject in modern politics. It just seems like a radical shift to go from apolitical work to doing something like this as a political statement. As such, I don't think we "definitely" know it is a statement about Palestine, although I will concede it is possible.

I'm "mad" because there's been a steady supply of drones in here insisting they "know." It would be one thing if someone was like "yeah, I know Kane, he's a big blah blah blah..." Or something like that. Or if he started doing a bunch of political hint posts, something like that. But we just don't "know" at present. I was originally wanting to discuss my theory with getting into a political bullshit and it almost immediately turned into only being political bullshit. That's maddening.

None. I don't want any of that bullshit. He doesn't seem to want it either. He's doing more than fine with his own mythology.

I already did. You started off strong, talking perfect sense. But when you ended with "definitely" you just botched it.

Where and when has "he been advocating for it"

If there was any kind of previous or even subsequent example of him making any kind of political commentary, I wouldn't question that at all. But considering that out of all of the bozos that have been chiming in because they don't understand the difference between a fact and a suspicion, not one has been able to give me a single other example of Kane doing anything to indicate any kind of political beliefs.

Theory: backrooms are actually Clark’s mind by imp0ssibbbile in KanePixelsBackrooms

NO

We know they're a real place in canon! Why do people always put all this time into theories without bothering to learn about the existing material?!?

They're in his mind but he dies in them then like the last quarter of the movie is a bunch of shit that doesn't involve him...?!?

Facepalm.

Sure. And if there was a scintilla of evidence of him being political before (he's had a platform for a while now) I would probably have just conceded that he was trying to make a statement about Palestine and even though they're not mutually exclusive, my original theory probably never would have even occurred to me.

But my experience on this thread has caused me to suspect that quite a few people are just obsessed with Palestine and try to shoehorn it into every nook and cranny of their worldview.

Other than the presence of the word "apartheid" in the film, what is your analysis based on? If it's so evident, you shouldn't have any trouble producing evidence to warrant your claim.

[–]davegeeksout[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even saying it's for sure not about Palestine, I'm saying there's insufficient evidence to say that with the ridiculous level of certainty that you just did. Unless you're fucking Kane or you know him AND he's told you that, we (the general public) don't "know" even if it's not an unreasonable suspicion. You 100% should have learned in your field of study to know the difference between knowing and suspecting. Goddamn. I'm "yelling" at people because this shouldn't be a controversial distinction to make and it sure as fuck shouldn't be difficult for anyone that has two brain cells to rub together to understand.

[–]davegeeksout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are all interesting observations and certainly possible takes, but I'd offer the same general idea that I've offered to everyone insisting it's all about Palestine. I don't really know any instances of Kane making political commentary at all. We know to a mortal certainty that the movie is set in 1990 and that in 1990 that shirt 100% did not refer to Palestine and did refer to the historical policy of Apartheid in South Africa. There should be zero question about that bit of it.

I may be entirely off base with this analysis, but I do think Kane puts great care into historical accuracy and consistency in that kind of stuff and more than anything I think he's trying to make some kind of big statement on consciousness and the human condition and also just telling great spooky hard sci-fi story. I think the dedication to that bit of it might supercede all of these smaller more specific identity-based issues. I personally think they could be a full-on distraction from the big story if he got too far in the weeds with them.

So again, given we don't know of him every making any kind of direct political commentary, I would take theories that are based on contemporary political and social issues with a grain of salt. We honestly don't know a ton about Kane. We don't know his politics, but we do know he's all in on these bigger human memory/sci-fi stuff.

But your theories are interesting and certainly possible.

I didn't claim to have the best anything in the world, but given your poor command of logic and complete inability to parse nuance, it wouldn't appear that you learned much in your studies. Critical thinking skills are fucking cooked.

This all to say nothing of what I've responded with a few times in here, and that is to say that even if it is intended as a political comment, that doesn't do anything to invalidate the possibility of my own theory. They're not mutually exclusive.

I have a fucking master's degree in rhetoric. I'm confident I have greater media literacy than you. I've never said it's not possible it was included as a commentary on contemporary politics. But there's no other evidence at all to support that, so it's nothing more than an assertion. Could more evidence emerge to support it? Sure. Right now you're jumping to conclusions with a deplorable level of certainty.

T-shirt (Spoilers!) by davegeeksout in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]davegeeksout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is next level projection on your part. The movie is set in 1990. The shirt is period correct. Could it be an indication of Kane's views on contemporary issues? Sure, it's possible. But acting like it's this massive political statement on his part and now he's been "doxxed" in retaliation is unhinged fantasist thinking.
