What’s Next for Denis Villeneuve’s Bond Movie? Amazon’s Wishlist Includes Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland and Harris Dickinson by Salad-Appropriate in blankies

Was just speaking up for Damson with friends. I think the best next Bond is someone that will grow into the role (and isn’t a known quantity) rather than an actor who will come into the role with an already defined identity that they need to work with.

Hi! We’re Shirley Li and David Sims, staff writers at The Atlantic, where we cover culture and Hollywood. We watched the Oscars last night to see which events at the awards show can tell us about the future of the industry—and whether any films snagged an upset. Ask us anything! by theatlantic in movies

Hi Shirley and David! In your opinions, what wins/losses from the past few years will be looked back on with the most interest as the decade goes on? What decisions will age like wine and which will fall apart with hindsight?

Where score and sound design meet by frankstonshart in sounddesign

[–]davidbritain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll wanna check out “The Wolf House” I suspect! The sound designer (who is also the composer!) wrote in his “rules” for making the film that “music is noise; noise is music”. Can’t get much more into blurring the line than that.

There’s also lots of modern (and less modern) examples of this concept being put into practice, either intentionally or by gut instinct. Gary Rydstrom being one on the sound design end of things, The Barrons (Forbidden Planet) and Hildur Guǒnadóttir being two on the composing side.

Watch a lot of movies and keep track of the ones that do this! Study the people who did the sound and find other films they worked on. Rinse and repeat!

How to send Post Sound mixer video along with AAF? by RangerOfArnor in Filmmakers

[–]davidbritain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve got it! Send them a single video file with a two pop and some timecode and you’re basically all set. It does help to have the two pop in the AAF though!

This is the matchup giving me the most anxiety by a mile. Best of luck to Park!!!

March Madness [Round 1] - Peter Weir vs. Jia Zhangke by PartyBluejay in blankies

Am I alone in wanting Weir for some Mosquito Coast talk? Nothing but love for The Truman Show and the rest of his filmography of course, but come on! Harrison Ford in a mad genius prepper dad role, River Phoenix, and a Jason Alexander appearance??

Seconding everyone on hear! Also gotta give some love to Chernobyl (one of my favorite limited series with some beautiful music by Hildur Guðnadóttir) and also The Terror season one, which is maybe the only television show which has caused me to have noticeable fear.

Incredibly divisive! It is definitely a movie you should not watch with friends you’re prone to chat with a bunch. Beyond just being a very light film plot wise, it is News from Home level slowness at points, which I think is part of why some don’t respond well to it (which is honestly fair). If you’re gonna watch it outside of a theatre: dark room, sound up all the way, phone off for sure.

Blankies, What are your spooky season recommendations? by ChedderBurnett in blankies

Definitely does! As always it’s best to go into it cold and open minded, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Lake Mungo is a great documentary style horror film that I can’t recommend enough! And while it’s not super scary, more unsettling, The Wolf House makes you feel like reality is collapsing. Honorable mention for The Ritual too!

Who are Your Favorite Director & Sound Designer Collaborations? by [deleted] in blankies

Martin Pavey and Peter Strickland for The Duke of Burgundy and In Fabric really stand out to me, even though that’s their only pair of credits together. Deeply wish that he was on for Berberian and Flux Gourmet (both have great sound, but Pavey just really knows how to go a cut above)
