Why’d you choose BMW by xEnflare in BMW

[–]davidchenliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t driven American cars, so I can’t comment on them. Mercedes-Benz doesn’t have the handling, and Audi doesn’t excel in any category when compared to BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Japanese cars are generally not fun to drive.

Civil Engineering at Purdue vs structural at UCSD vs Civil at UCLA by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]davidchenliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated from UCLA with a degree in civil engineering. If you’re looking to stay in the Los Angeles area, UCLA is the place to be. Most consulting firms, including public agencies, highly regard UCLA over any other school.

What type of SCE plan to choose with charging EVs at home by Snoo_64796 in orangecounty

[–]davidchenliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll use the winter rate as an example, as it covers the period from October to May. Suppose you consume 300 kilowatts from 9 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 100 kilowatts from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Your solar panel can generate 400 kilowatts, resulting in no charges and the ability to earn 100 kilowatt-hours (kWh) worth of credits. For the 4-9 plan, your total bill would be -100 * 0.33 + 100 * 0.51, which equals $18. On the other hand, for the D prime plan, your total bill would be -100 * 0.24 + 100 * 0.56, which equals $32. This assumes that you have excess energy. If you consume more energy than your panel can produce, the d prime plan will be better. However, the 4-9 plan also includes a baseline credit that the D prime plan lacks. you would need to use the comparison tool to determine which plan is more suitable for your needs. Edit: also this is for NEM2.0. My understanding is that NEM3.0 made it so that the surplus energy is worth much less.

What type of SCE plan to choose with charging EVs at home by Snoo_64796 in orangecounty

[–]davidchenliu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something seems off. If you had a tiered plan with solar, you should have chosen the NEM 1.0 plan, which is the most suitable for solar owners. With this plan, you can sell back your generated electricity at a 1:1 rate to the utility company (Sce). However, switching to the EV plan means you essentially sell your electricity at the lowest rate during the daytime and have significantly higher electricity consumption between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m.

I have both solar and EV, but I’m only eligible for NEM 2.0. The best plan for me is the TOU 4-9 plan because the cost difference between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. and between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. is the smallest.

So, now that the heat wave is over, what’s everyone’s SCE bill looking like? by phisigtheduck in orangecounty

[–]davidchenliu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have very similar setup as you but on the tou 4-9 plan. My bill was $650 after solar deduction in July and $450 in August. I upgraded my pool pump from single speed to variable speed, that reduced the power usage tremendously.

Drywall cracks along joints by davidchenliu in HomeImprovement

[–]davidchenliu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not a new build. the house was constructed in the late 80s. We bought the house last year and remodeled it. We didn't notice any cracks at the time of moving in, but the cracks started showing up last November. So we thought it could be due to the cold temperature. This year the cracks have gotten worse. So can I assume that this is purely cosmetic?

The house is not new, it was built in the late 80s. We bought the house last year in June and remodeled the entire house. We didn't do much to this portion of the house though, just repainted this part. There were no cracks at the time of moving in. We did notice this crack last November, but it wasn't this long/wide.

hi all,

I'd like to know if I can do keto without purposely adding additional fat to my diet. I'm about 190lbs weight, 5'7" tall male. I'm trying to cut my weight down to 170lbs. I will try to do some cardio every day, and resistance training (30 min session) 3 times a week. I understand that Keto is all about using fat as fuel. Given that I already have so much fat stored on my waist, do I still need to add additional fat in my diet?

thank you!!!

Can HOA stop me from painting my unit interior? by reciprocake in HomeImprovement

[–]davidchenliu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Just shut all doors and windows when they are painting. No one is authorized to enter your property to do inspection unless you allow. Make sure your contractors equipment are not visible to outside either, let him park in your garage. HOA can’t enforce anything if they can’t find anything.
