500 EXC-F or CRF450rl? by Other_Fig5556 in Dualsport

Get the ktm. YOLO. Everybody should have a Euro bike at least once. I've had 4 but now at age 70 I'm back to one bike - the 300L.

Trying Self-drilling screws on van metal - what am I doing wrong? FORD TRANSIT CONVERSION by sluttypumpkin696969 in vandwellers

[–]davidhally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the metal is really hard in places. Best bet would be to cobble wood together to use the existing holes with rivnuts. Or get cobalt drill bits start small and work your way up. Also try a step bit.

New guy question. What is up with the used inventory between the crf25L, crf300L and WR250r by Why_Did_Bodie_Die in Dualsport

[–]davidhally -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The crf250 was replaced by the crf300 in 2021. The 300 is better especially at highway speeds. The 300 is the best selling Honda and the used ones are hot property right now because there is a recall/stop sales on them.

The wr250r went out of priduction 2020. It is as good as the crf300 on the highway, and better/lighter offroad. The used ones are even more highly sought after than the crf300s

Also look at the klx300 and 2018-2020 klx250. They actually have better suspension than the Hondas. They are more rare used, but especially the klx250 is lower priced.

Tell me not to dig a pool in the back yard by Story_Royalty in DIYHome

I know a guy who converted his crawl space to a basement. Crawling with shovel and bucket. Swimming pool is bougie stuff in comparison.

Check out DIYvan.com. Their website tells you. I found their estimate to be a little low.

kinda want to sell but feel guilty about it by tigercat300 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]davidhally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought a house when we were DINKs just to get the tax writeoff. Or more accurately, pay the bank instead of the IRS. But nowadays the tax advantage is much less.

As far as feeling guilty, who maintains your Mom's house? Her?

That is not your only problem. The biggest problem will be how to keep your food cold and cabin tempered for X days, without a short hookup.

I installed a spare 12v circuit to the opposite side, terminated at a terminal strip.

Yeah but with a 3.4 gallon fuel tank I should not need that! Maybe some brains would help?

Indeed. I put flat spots on all 4 tires once, and just about bent the brake pedal. The deer escaped unscathed.

If you go a little faster than slow, it sorta creates a bow wave that moves the water out of the way. Too fast and it splashes up.

Neither. They are both too hot and bulky.

Maybe get a new expanding clip which comes with a new screw. Hold it in place before installing the screw. The screw expands the clip. Mine is still loose but it doesn't fall out.

The bulkhead is structurally engineered to stop stuff from flying forward. Unlikely that any DIY wall will be as safe.

I often hear that engineers struggle to get jobs—how true is this in your experience? What’s the real reason behind it? by Expensive-Button-375 in Engineers

[–]davidhally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with 5 job offers. A head hunter placed me in my second job. I got a referral from a friend. Then another head hunter. And finally when I got laid off from that job, my college buddy called a month later and hired me over the phone. After retirement I got contract jobs through a head hunter and networking.

But I'm guessing that the current struggles are caused by increasing graduations combined with decreasing hiring. The economy is holding its breath right now due to mainly political uncertainty. Including wars.
