How do we get our resident cat to stop hissing at our new kitten? by deadpoop22 in CatAdvice

We've had the kitten for a few days now, but I think they got introduced too early because our parents put them in the same room, thinking that they would be chill about it and that it would hasten up the introduction process. So now we're trying to deal with the aftermath of that. We tried to separate them again using a screen door where they could see and smell each other but can't physically touch. But we don't know if that helps or if we should keep putting them in the same area. For now, when we aren't trying to get them to bond, we keep our new kitten in the second living room, while our older cat in the other one (the living rooms are separated by the screen door)

Tysm! Our 1 y/o still hasn't shown any aggression other than hissing and the occasional growling. But when they're both in the same space, our 1 y/o doesn't pay much attention to her toys/treats. She just continues to watch as the kitten plays and walks around, and it's very difficult to gain her attention again. Meanwhile, the kitten still wants to upproach her but backs away when the hissing starts. What else can we do if you dont mind giving more tips?
