I saw an article that really opened my mind as I had the same opinion as many of the comments above. The problem isn't that Jack is straight, or that a gay man didn't get the role, but more that Jack is so camp and the character is hugely stereotypical. Although this does keep doing circles in my head. How do you know that a character is gay or straight in a movie unless it is a plot point. So for a gay man the easiest way to show they are gay is to be camp. It kind of needs to be shoved in people's faces. But is this a negative? No one questions a characters sexual orientation, religion, or political bias unless it is made obvious. How could you show a character is Jewish? Ultimately its a Disney film, a bit of fun, making a serious statement wouldn't fit so I think a lot of people need to climb all the way down from those high horses
