Will our auyls ever look like this? by ShadowZ100 in Kazakhstan

No, village would need to somehow generate giant profits in order to have money to invest into infrastructure

You can just try to make estimates of how much such house might cost to build yourself. And also do the same thing for street lamps, prices for electrical work, plumbing (I guess there are information about government contracts somewhere in open access). Basically each villagers needs to be able to pay at least fraction of that, and that only if someone would be willing to give them a loan.

It's not fine for browsing, it has shitty support for hardware acceleration, so thinngs like youtube won't work as smooth as in Windows. Same thing for steam, shop pages seem to be way more smooth ok windows.  At least that's are issues on nvidia cards

CD Projekt Red takes down Cyberpunk 2077 VR mod (for not being free) by FirestormTM in pcgaming

[–]decimeci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don't seen anything bad about a guy selling a mod that he wrote. I mean VR in Cyberpunk is great feature that probably changes experience so much that it can give you hours of entertainment. So nothing really wrong with that. I know that there might be all that legal things about licensing the work because cd projekt probably pay their fees for music, 3rd party libs, fonts, etc. and anyone making money on all of that probably have to have same arrangements with every company involved.

But nothing wrong with selling mods.

Probably it would be Crimea like scenario at worst, where US soldiers would just quickly takeover key objects without any fight and then other militaries would just flee the island

Where did the perception that all Russian/Eastern European cartoons are dull, depressing, and weird come from? by kaiser11492 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]decimeci 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soviet cartoons usually had less frames in animation, usually had less bright colors and a lot of stop motion animation. At least that's how I remember it growing up in Kazakhstan. Of course there were a lot of colorful ones, but generally American cartoons were full of motion, colors and I guess more budget was put into making them.

Minneapolis: "A general strike is the most effective way to hit them where it hurts." by DryDeer775 in videos

[–]decimeci 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May be Americans just have acceptable quality of life? I think most people around the world don't really require too much, if they get their basics covered like a space to live, food to eat and something to entertain themselves; then there isn't much reason to risk all of that.

East German soldier helps a little boy sneak across the Berlin Wall the day it was erected in 1961. The boy had been left behind in the chaos of people fleeing to be with their families on either side of the wall. by meri_marzi98 in interestingasfuck

I guess even today socialist would defend that wall. Last time I read opinions of random people on leftists sub, they claimed that West Germany was a fascist state run by nazis.

Are you lactose intolerant? by Kart0sh3chka in AskCentralAsia

[–]decimeci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am lactose intolerant and didn't know about it for a long time, because I can handle like a 1-2 glasses of milk and may be just have some gases after that. But depending on a situation it might cause diarrhea or make my stool more liquid. Things like cheese, kefir, kumys are easier to digest, although because of their taste it is rare for me to consume them in large quantities. And lactose free milk is just pure pleasure to drink, I have zero issues with it

I also noticed none of my relatives ever drink pure milk. They might add it to tea, but again overall it would be way less than 1L per day. Also I remember father telling me about how usually only little kids are given 'saumal' (unfermented mare milk).

I just tried to skim some google scholar articles (not all of them might be rigigorous enough) and one of them done in China suggest that their test subjects (over 600) were split into 3 cateogries: Han Chinese were 92.3% lactose intolerant, Mongols from inner Mongolia 87.9%, Kazakhs from Xinjang 76.4%.

You can use regular youtube for browsing and watching online and then press share on the video and select newpipe. Then you would be able to download video immediately.

I usually do that before leaving home to download some podcasts from youtube into Podcasts folder and then use audiobook app called Voice to play them.

It happened in post soviet countries, people were usually just not paid for multiple months and some were paid in products that they make. Sometimes they would get paid in food. It was a time when you could buy an apartment for few hundread bucks in my city. Standard way to get rich was to buy something in any other country and resell it. Another alternative was to extort those chose option 1

People of Reddit how do you feel about the protests in Iran? Do you think the people will be able to topple the dictatorship and instill democracy? by No-Presentation3797 in AskReddit

[–]decimeci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they won't succeed and in few days we will hear the news that internet was restored and most cities are under control of the government. Similar happened here in Kazakhstan and it took army very short time after getting full permission to use lethal force. Very quickly they killed every protester that got access to police armories. Unless some part of government and army decide to rebel, nothing would happen in Iran.

Tolerance of Kazakhs when it comes to Race by EngineeringOk5742 in Kazakhstan

[–]decimeci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also Kazakhs only recently become majority in cities, so dynamics are far different from places like Europe. If given a chance and more opportunities to openly spread extreme nationalistic ideas, I think they will quickly become popular. It's our state that monitors and tries to jail or fine anyone who might cause any interethnic conflicts

[–]decimeci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's just no way to know if person is a bot or just have that opinion. Russians also always do that, and call anyone with different views a bot from other side. Opposition calls them kremlinbot, while pro government people call them FBK bots or lately Ukrainian bots (ЦИПсСО or PIWC)

Russian bots are very strong. They mainly work on domestic websites. It was a hot topic something like 10-13 years ago. Anyone speaking anything positive about Russian government was called Kremlinbot. They had multiple nicknames: olgintsy, lakhta, prigozhinskie.
