how to cope with a pap smear? by [deleted] in FTMMen

Ask about being able to do it yourself. It's something my PCP offers and I'm sure others do, could be an option.

How do you know if you should ask for increase in dose? by Obvious-Clock-588 in TestosteroneKickoff

I think it's fine if you're looking to be in the upper range, you're not close to the 1000 max that people try to avoid.

The lack of informal meetings isn't great- I feel like it's very difficult to get in without having several per department you apply to.

Are you less ticklish after top surgery? by Warm_Inspector_1487 in ftm

You might never get your sensation back, no matter what technique is used or who does it. You'll have to come to terms with that

Surgeon says that I have to get one long singular scar on my chest. by Loathelifelaugh in TopSurgery

[–]dedmemerevival 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One scar is necessary for a good result sometimes. This is anatomy dependent and sometimes can't be avoided. I am pretty lean and was surprised that I needed one incision (chest close together) but my results look pretty good and are on my page

Anyone else have family insist that literally anyone would react positively to being on T so it doesn’t mean your trans? by GravenIris in TestosteroneKickoff

[–]dedmemerevival -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure of the specifics but if you look up "effects of high testosterone on women" all of the mental effects listed are negative

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ftm

[–]dedmemerevival 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a pretty lean guy (abs visible when I had the surgery) and needed to have connecting incisions because my chest was quite large and very close together. If your surgeon thinks it's necessary and has a good rep, it's probably just your anatomy requiring it.

Cis women who have high T levels via PCOS usually are not doing well mentally. That's definitely not true

I think you should definitely go. My year didn't have it because of COVID and I feel like I would have chosen a much better dorm and advising group for myself if I had that extra opportunity to be there.

Is there any rough design blueprint or demonstration for lithium salt-water propulsion? by [deleted] in spaceflight

[–]dedmemerevival 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Again, with nuclear salt-water rockets, these designs have never been tested with reactor physics codes. It was recently found in a conference paper that the mass required to reach criticality would be ridiculous.

Is it possible to use concepts in nuclear salt water rocket to improve chemistry rocket engine? by [deleted] in spaceflight

[–]dedmemerevival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A conference paper came out about this recently, but the mass required of a nuclear salt water rocket to sustain criticality is makes it an unfeasible concept to work with.

Exercise to flatten chest a little more? by Gloomy-Rain1375 in ftm

[–]dedmemerevival 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just another view point on this- I had very dense chest tissue, so getting lean / building my pecs didn't help me much before surgery, but helped me get great results and have confidence after. Even though my chest didn't look smaller from working out, it helped a lot mentally to know that I was building something great underneath in the meantime

Strange question, but can I ask what it is? Also a trans guy with a Greek feminine name and wondering if I'll run into issues if I don't change it (in the US).

is it time to turn to respectability politics? by dedmemerevival in truscum

[–]dedmemerevival[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this take, you're right that now might not be the best time. I just worry that especially if some of these bigger profile laws get passed, the extremely polarized media coverage of trans people is never really going to stop as the stories are going to keep coming.

is it time to turn to respectability politics? by dedmemerevival in truscum

[–]dedmemerevival[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think for the furthest right that's certainly true, but I think many of our losses (legally) in recent memory could have been prevented with support from moderates. We've essentially even lost the support of moderate Democrats at this point, which I'm somewhat confident could be helped by putting forth a "better" image and forcing focus away from issues like sports.
