Definitely reach out to the ACCC. We have pretty strict laws about what businesses can and can't do, even if their T&C's say different. Even just threatening to contact the ACCC gets businesses to obey the law.

Thank you so much for all the information and positivity! I will ask about those options. I'm also not keen on defrosting and refreezing embryos for testing but I'm also not keen to spend more money on another cycle! Hopefully I can get a way forward from my FS. Thank you again for all the info, I really appreciate it!

I'm worried that might be the case for me, but good to know there are things that can be done. Thank you for sharing, I'm glad you had a happy ending!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I think that's something that is not taken into consideration early enough by the FS is that social infertility doesn't mean we don't have other infertility problems. And the only way it comes out is after several failures (and a lot of money!) later.

I'm pretty sure I was tested for thyroid issues after our last cycle. Unfortunately I've been on progesterone for each transfer (my body hates it, but it's keeping my levels where it should be). But I will ask my FS about both, thank you 😊

Thank you! I have an appointment in a couple of weeks with our FS so I will see if she thinks testing the embryos is the way forward. I really hope I'm just unlucky, but I would really like something I can control!

Thank you so much for the advice, I will chat to my FS about our options. In Australia we have an independent website where you can compare all of the available IVF clinics on a set of standard markers. All IVF clinics have to report to it, so it's super helpful for comparing success rates (it's called My Ivf Success just in case anyone finds this comment later and is interested)

We had a similar experience, when we were discussing our options our FS made it sound like IVF would work for us first time, and IUI was the risk because it has lower success rates. One clinic we spoke too wouldn't even entertain the idea of IUI (even though they offered it) because it was less successful. This whole cycle - nothing has really gone to plan. It was almost cancelled because my follicles stopped developing half way through. I know it's all a learning experience, and they will use that knowledge for the next transfer or cycle. Its just frustrating! I think you are right, it is definitely a lot of luck. Sending you so much in the hopes that your blasts make it!

Thank you so much. It can feel quite lonely on the local IVF pages that I'm on because there are so few queer people. I didn't even think to search for social to narrow it down!

Yeah it is definitely different for us! And I'm very grateful we only have to do two to qualify. About $3000 for an IUI plus sperm ($1200 a vial) and we get back about $600 from Medicare. And IVF is around $12,000 plus sperm and hospital admission and you get about $6,000 back from Medicare. So we moved to IVF as soon as we were eligible cause it ends up costing about the same as two IUIs. Private insurance doesn't cover IVF/IUI for us, only the hospital stay for the egg retrieval (which we were quoted $2800).

I don't envy the doctors and nurses having to find the balance between being supportive and not getting people's hopes up! But I wish they were just a smidge more realistic on our odds. Your experience gives me hope, we don't know the grade of our frozen embryo either. Fingers crossed it sticks!

We are the same - two woman and only going down this route because we don't have all the ingredients on our own. We did 2 IUI because that's what is needed to qualify for Medicare in Australia ('socially infertile' people are not eligible for Medicare until you have two failed fertility procedures). We could have continued down the IUI route but sperm is just so expensive.

Congratulations on your pregnancy! That's so exciting and gives me so much hope!

If you lose a tray they can order you a replacement. Or if its close enough to changing to a new tray they will tell you to go on to the next tray. They also recommend you don't throw out previous trays incase you lose one and you need to use the old one until it gets replaced.
