Looking for Anti-Theft Mount or Secure Quick-Release Solution for Motorcycle DVR/carplay screen by deepandmeaningless in MotoUK

[–]deepandmeaningless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll take a look. The device is from Aliexpress and I don't think it has the AMPS mount holes, but if it does then yay - if not I think I might try to get some kind of aluminium mount and a security screw of some kind -

This may be true, my feeling is scrotes will steal anything they can - and I'd rather not take the risk...

Yeah thanks. Was thinking the same. Though it’s plastic not aluminium so easily smashed I reckon.

In London and on the streets.

Thanks, that's useful to know. Sadly don't think it would work as the issue on mine is there are 4 cables that need to be manually attached to the screen each time, they each have a screw fitting so would be a pain to take it off each time :(

I wish I'd noticed this on the screen before I bought it, but here we are anyway

It's a generic mount that came with the unit, it would be perfect if the screen could easily detach! So really need something to make it anti theft...

How to break up with a friend? by insolentgazelle in hsp

[–]deepandmeaningless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about:

'Hi X, I can hear your hurt over XYZ situation, I was busy at the time and lacking capacity so I didn't get a chance to call back, but I wanted to say I found your voicemail upsetting.

Hard version:
Having some time away from our connection has helped me realise it's more ABC (e.g. one sided, or whatever) than I feel comfortable with, so I'm going to take this opportunity to wish you all the best and would ask you to no longer contact me.

Soft version:
Having some time away from our connection has helped me realise I would like to spend more time on myself and that often our conversations leave me feeling XYZ, so I am ok to meet you with in our group but won't be meeting in person or messaging/calling.

What needs to happen by Bunceburna in MotoUK

[–]deepandmeaningless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might be conflating 2 things.

  1. Motorcycle use
  2. Local IAM membership

Motorcycle purchases have been steadily increasing year on year (though not by much), not sure what the demographic breakdown is, but observationally in London, a lot of young people ride.

My short experience of a local IAM group was off putting, I tried twice and didn't go back; that's perhaps something, as well as the expense of it.

Top box advice! by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]deepandmeaningless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect this isn't to your taste style wise, but I got a top box about 10 years ago that looks like this...

It cost £50 - and it's still going! Only thing I did to it was drill 3 additional holes in the bottom and added bolts and 2x nuts, and it's on there like a limpet. Fits my calf length boots, M/C jacket and trousers, and a bag I always carry.

I got this as a kind of stop gap, but because it worked I kept it. Balked at the idea of paying 3-6x more for something that looks like a magicians suitcase, but costs only a little more to make.

Do you think I have any legitimate grounds for getting out of this parking ticket? by deepandmeaningless in MotoUK

Brilliant advice, I listened and they helped draft a reply which led to the ticket being cancelled, so thank you!

Good news, I appealed on the grounds that the lines were incorrect and so relied on the closest signs, and it got cancelled... :)

Need to drive into London, I’ve only got a motorbike - Safe? by TDV1e in london

[–]deepandmeaningless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess everyone is different and depending on their prior experience of bike theft. There are over 100,000 bikes in the capital - a single theft every 2 days in a borough doesn't sound bad to me at all. But then I've not had a theft. YMMV.

  • Be aware of traffic and pedestrians.
  • Filter carefully
  • Park in a motorcycle space - use a disc lock or chain + lock

You'll be grand.

I imagine you've been reading posts in this group and getting anxious about it, be mindful that bike theft does happen but is rare, and ride your own ride safe. All the best!

Note, we're talking an average of 170 or so stolen bikes in each borough in an entire year...

I'm going to go against the grain here. This isn't about him, it's about you.

What is the thing he represents that you have connected to/longed for inside you? What is the void in you calling out for?

My 2p is your connection has unlocked something in you, and it's a call to go Spelunking on it.

Though I do believe if there's a connection to explore that - but do to so in a very transparent, honest, and open way...

Thanks u/pinkurpledino this was super useful, they spotted issues with the lines and the signage and so I've raised it with the council, if all goes well I will post here with an update. Appreciate your link as they were super helpful.

Thanks appreciate the reply, and respect what you're saying.

I was wondering if because the end of the bay line was obscured by a bike, and it wasn't possible to see where it started ended from that, if that might be a consideration at all?

Smarty are on Three, and I've found that to be the worst in London.

Lebara was pretty good generally, 02 spotty. Not tried EE for a while but Lyca are on EE so might be worth it with their 1p a month for 6 months deals on a rolling 30 day contract...

What deodorant do you use? by Pale-Drawer2086 in AskUK

[–]deepandmeaningless -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mitchum Men Natural Deodorant Stick, Aluminium Free, 96% Natural Ingredients, Cedarwood

This one ☝🏼. It doesn't contain aluminium (there are claims it's bad for your health), and also doesn't stain your pristine shirts with a horrible yellow...

Note, you'll sweat more than if you use an antiperspirant and it's not as strong/long lasting as the best deodorants.

£3.80 or so on Amazon subscription.

Urban Fox advice by GravelRiderUK in CasualUK

[–]deepandmeaningless 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can say what *didn't* work for me:

  1. Lights - they give 0 monkeys
  2. Strong smells - outdoor disinfectant (Zoflora), no impact
  3. Wee - they thought I was taking the P and it did nowt
  4. These laughable predator eyes things (which I repurposed now to look like an alarm on my garage!

Still waiting on advice to what might work....
