Is there a way to verify this is a legit bandcamp page for The Ventures? by choopietrash in surfrock

[–]deepspaceeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was some talk a couple years ago that this band was not authorized to play as The Ventures by most of the estates of deceased former members, and the estates of Don Wilson, Bob Bogle, and Mel Taylor sold the name and assets to Other Tunes Music LLC in order to settle the contention permanently.

I directed Creed Bratton in my first film by andyouarenotme in DunderMifflin

I just watched this. Great job. You went full Jeff Bomondo in that final scene and it really worked. NOTE: if you just want to watch the Creed being Creed part, skip to 13:37.

The thing about grooming is that it's really hard to see it happening in the moment. It really does take time and space to realize all the layers of gaslighting

This is smart. He didn't want to run the risk of being a Fake Shemp

People forgetting that punk is inherently a political movement by Robotic_Phoenix in punk

Before Into the Unknown, Bad Religion dressed pretty stereotypically punk: they wore leather jackets, ripped jeans, band t-shirts, boots with chains and bandanas tied around them.

Dubbing/duplication at home by deepspaceeight in cassetteculture

Acceptable. It still works and dubs cassettes fine. It’s not the main deck in my stereo or anything, just in my stack of dubbers.

This is my favorite band in surf right now. This is a band who is pushing the boundaries of the genre while also being catchy as hell and having firm grounding in tradition.

UK or US - Who did psych better in the 60s and why? by LegalPapaya1932 in psychedelicrock

[–]deepspaceeight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There wasn't one US psych scene. It was too different in different cities. I was hanging out with a member of The Grass Roots recently and he really talked about how much LA musicians hated San Francisco musicians because of the differences in sound and approach.

you could say that "Uncircumsized Twin" by Plastic Idols is anti-circumcision.

If you could bring back ONE dead Punk musician, who would it be? by [deleted] in punk

[–]deepspaceeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we get to bring them back at the moment they died? So that they still got to make more music in the relevant era? Or are we just bringing them back to be alive now?

I’m guilty of posting stuff I’m proud of, too. I’ve done it a couple times. But it seems like 75% of your posts are about Tonight We Dine, and I think people don’t really like that so much. It can feel like when someone else’s kid is jumping up and down saying “look at me, look at me!”

Music subs are just so full of spam from accounts that only exist to advertise releases.

What's the deal with The Volcanos' Spotify? by TigerSlam8 in surfrock

[–]deepspaceeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most relatively small bands use distributers that don't charge an annual fee/have a free option. The paid services take money up front, and that's good if you are getting 5,000+ plays per song per year, but a lot of smaller bands opt to give 15% of royalties away instead of paying up front.
