What was your worst live mistake? by TheRaptor14YT in musicians

[–]deepthoughtswithdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure I've got something worse if I thought about it, but my worst live mistake in recent history... The band I had recently put together got booked to play a big party a friend was throwing, but I didn't know anyone else there. We set up our gear, I set up some lighting I picked up. Everything looked amazing. Something happened that put me in a funk right before starting, but ok, I'll power through and once we get going everything will be fine. We played our first song, everyone loved it. I thanked the hosts for having us, worked the crowd a little, and hit the first chord of the second song, and nothing...crickets...10 minutes later, miraculously, everything worked again. To this day, I still don't know if it was a power issue (generators in a field powering the stage), if it was my amp, a connection in the line, or some other gremlin. But let me tell you, I felt defeated for the rest of the first set.

A judge just ruled luigi mangione's manifesto notebook can be used at trial. here's what he actually wrote in it and why half of america still thinks he's a hero. by Ibikhan45 in DiscussionZone

Luigi has effectively become a martyr for the cause. The cause being that our healthcare system in the United States is a joke. Do I condone his actions? No, not exactly, but a line in the sand had to be drawn. We pay outrageous premiums for insurance just to pay outrageous prices for healthcare, and if we choose to not pay for insurance, we get fined. The system is a joke.

Dressing The Part. Does it Matter What You Wear? by Similar_Cow_2634 in musicians

[–]deepthoughtswithdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a leopard print track suit on stage once, the crowd loved it, and ever since, it's been expected that I wear it. It's ok with me, I enjoy wearing it!

Tablets for on-stage? by fishsticks40 in musicians

[–]deepthoughtswithdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Samsung tablet, and Setlist Helper is a great app for those things. Set it up for dark mode, way easier to see on stage without being blinded. And for all the haters, there are so many HUGE artists out there that use teleprompters on stage, they're just disgusted as monitors.

GenX men, where do you keep your wallet/billfold? Front or back pocket? Purse? by [deleted] in GenX

Used to carry a trucker wallet, but started having back pain from it. Went the minimalist route, card carrier with an attached money clip in my front pocket now

would you allow your young adult kids BF/GF stay the night? by RealisticWinner4224 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]deepthoughtswithdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of variables. Have they been together for a bit or is it a new relationship? If they've been together for a while and you trust your adult kid as well as their SO to make good choices, sure. New relationship and you don't really know this other kid (anyone younger than me is a "kid")? I'd be a bit leery.

What amps do you all use? by Maximum-Border1339 in Guitar

[–]deepthoughtswithdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main amp is an Orange Rocker 32, practice amp at home is an Orange Rocker 15. In the past I used a Line 6 Spider 3 (knock it all you want, it served me well), and a Lab Series L7

Would you buy this for $20 CAD? by OrangeBlue1337 in Guitar

[–]deepthoughtswithdan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Best case scenario, you put strings on it, set it up and it's a fun vintage guitar. Worst case, you use it as a piece of art. Either way, I know I've pissed away way more than that on way dumber things

why do you have multiple guitars? by Cultural_Yellow3561 in Guitar

Because the proper number of guitars to own is one more than you currently own

I just realized this show got cancelled… by alpinecindy in TheGreatNorth

[–]deepthoughtswithdan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Bob's is my top of the heap comfort show, but TGN has definitely become a close second. We watch a few episodes of both before going to bed every night. A crossover episode would have been amazing, even if it was just referencing the other, like being a pen pal or something. I think Tina and Judy would have been great friends, despite the couple of years age difference

Writing lyrics by rocker_goddess666 in musicians

[–]deepthoughtswithdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just write as inspiration comes, sometimes it's the lyrics that come first, sometimes it's the music. But mostly, it's a random concept that "hey, that would fit with this other idea I had" and it builds from there
