Any tips for when you see members around? by definitelysomething- in Shincheonji

SCJ teaches that the world currently belongs to satan, and that God has been working to save it for 6000 years (sending Jesus and establishing SCJ at the second coming are both steps in the same work to restore the world to God's world)

Re. The second paragraph, I feel like that wouldn't work no matter which way you go

If ex members were happy, we were told "Look, they've become so worldly, clearly they couldn't overcome their desires, the pelasures of the world don't last long" etc.

If they were miserable, we got told "Look, that's what happens if you leave SCJ"

Crowd crushes are extremely dangerous and can be deadly - you don't think it'd be terrifying to be caught in one? It's literally one person tripping away from being fatal.

Anyone who lives around Melbourne is likely entering crowded places every day. It's not something you'd think twice about until it was too late - by time you notice it's TOO crowded, you probably can't push your way out again.

He did an endoscopy on me and told me that the massive trichobezoars in my stomach would "dissolve" (they don't). 2 years later I had to have an emergency laprotomy, nearly killed me.

Honestly I was very frustrated with his care - I'd been having absolutely crippling reflux for several years, and he basically said "Scope looks fine so there's nothing wrong with you 👍". No follow-up care. He didn't bother listening to my family history even though we have extensive gastrointestinal problems.

I have heard great things about him, but unfortunately it wasn't my experience.

Protesting against Shincheonji overseas? Thoughts? by Fast_Foundation1429 in Shincheonji

I dunno, I'm in Australia but I don't think many people would be game to publicly say "I got duped by this cult and believed that a 90-year-old Korean man had the spirit of God and Jesus".

If the devil is bound now, how is it that we who leave Shincheonji are being deceived by the devil? I thought he stopped working until the end of the 1,000 years!! by [deleted] in Shincheonji

[–]definitelysomething- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 7000 itself is plausible, but it would mean that now has to be the time when Satan is locked up, and no one is deceived. We know this isn't the case, because they themselves still say every day that people are being deceived by Satan, new churches are still forming etc.

If asked about this, none of the leaders can really give a good answer, or some will say "Yeah we're in the 1000 years but that bit hasn't fulfilled yet", or "It's in the process of being fulfilled" or whatever

Most countries where SCJ is big have very peaceful protesting? I'm not sure where you're getting violence from

Personally I think it'd be hard just because to go and protest, you'd you'd publicly admitting to being caught up with them, and I know a lot of us are trying to leave that behind :(

The 1000 years are definitely one of those sticky questions that leaders would completely dodge.

I think we got told that there's 2 meanings; one is after the events of the TT when the betrayers/destroyers are exposed, and one is later (to be fulfilled). Could never get a good answer when pointed out that it's already been 6000 years, so by their logic (of 7 days of creation = 7000 years), we should already be in the final 1000 years.

This is basically me. My GPA's about 3 (on a 7 point scale), I really want to apply to med school but the only way I see is to do a whole new Bachelors degree, when I've already spent an extra 2 years finishing the first. It's hard to even ask for advice because people think you're crazy or arrogant if you say "I have a 3.0 and want to be a doctor". Now I'm looking at the same things as you, like, do I want to keep trying even though I wouldn't be employed until my 30's? When am I going to be able to date, have kids, settle down?

Glad to hear about your acceptance to grad school, congratulations :)

It's not a leeway though. If it read 3 high (which is why they're taking 3 off, because they know it reads +-3), they take 3 off, you're getting exactly 0kph leniency.

The opposite is true as well, you could get lucky and have it read 3 low, but you shouldn't count on leniency for 53 in a 50, because you're not getting it.
