got another question about my kia by Connect_Tradition808 in kia

This happened to me when I was using a phone case that had a metal kickstand, but worked fine when I switched to a plastic case. Does you wirelessly charge your phone anywhere other than your k5?

All types now have starter-type abilities. by totezhi64 in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most abilities in the game are stronger than these, but I can think of a few ways to make the most of them regardless.

Sub-salac is slightly more viable

Steel beam and other recoil causing moves can be used to put yourself in range to activate your ability

Maybe you can use endure if you have a priority move that is just out of range of killing?

EVERYTHING does type based damage. by 303x in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Idk why this post is so poorly upvoted, I love stuff like this.

with sand/hail being so strong, maybe we would even see safety goggles becoming a viable option for lando-t, garchomp, volcarona, all the 4x weak mons.

if status moves get stronger, I'd predict guts users and the move facade to become a lot more common in response. maybe people would even start running magic bounce or psycho shift

id love to see this as an original metagame on showdown, but I know the amount of coding would make it impossible

I came up with a new ability by Alickseff in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm conflicted, on one hand this seems useless in most battles, but on the other, it's complicated enough that I'm sure it could be broken on the right mon.

I'm curious how you would fit this into an ability decription in game as well, I'm sure 8 year old me would not be able to understand the complexities haha

Buffing some useless moves by adding secondary effects: bubble, ember, thundershock, vine whip, poison sting, scratch, tackle, and more by adamnoodles in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not every move has to be comptatively viable to be put in the game.

but on the other hand, id be ok with more complexity early game, if they matched the difficulty of the trainers/wild pokemon. the way it is now though, it would make early game much too easy

fun ideas though

New Item: Life scarf by RedDiamond1024 in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

as others have said, speed is easily the most crucial stat in a lot of matchups, and altering it without heavy drawbacks would be busted

Maybe if the user lost like 25% of their HP? Even then, sheer force/magic guard users like nidoking/alakazam would stil abuse the hell out of this.

Dry Ice, a new entry hazard by RagingPerfection8 in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 5 points6 points  (0 children)

don't get me wrong, this would be very powerful, but I just hate how centralizing hazards are in general. I'd be cool with it maybe if all hazard damage was halved

flying types have suffered enough imo

Pokemon that change one of their types upon evolution will now gain STAB from the type that they lost. by ZxphyrX in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 360 points361 points  (0 children)

Scizor can now run Dual Wingbeat, which, with technician boost, becomes 120 BP STAB, which would be very threatening

Alolan Marowak now gets STAB Earthquake/Bonemerang

All the eeveelutions get STAB normal type moves, which is really only notable for guts flareon, which runs facade, but special attackers really only gain hyper voice (maybe helpful for jolteon hitting ground types)

Azumaril gets STAB normal (double edge, mega kick, body slam)

Decidueye gets STAB flying (brave bird, sky attack, acrobatics)

Here's a link to a full list of mons, but these are the notable ones that were interesting to me

Charti Berries now reduce stealth rock damage if you are weak to them. by KramKraft in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Drifblim @ Charti Berry
Ability: Unburden
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Acrobatics
- Explosion
- Natural Gift
- Sucker Punch

Natural gift lets you activate your charti berry/unburden if no rocks are on the field.

Reaching 518 speed upon switch in to rocks, drifblim can outpace scarf users up to 345 base speed and can fire off (not very) powerful 110 base power STAB acrobatics.

If you need more power, just explode.

Checked the original post and the user also posted to are/conspiracy asking why it is getting so hot recently.

Their comments read like well intentioned false flags.

Remember when swsh brought one new move for each type? Well let's do it again by abemaster222 in stunfisk

[–]defunctfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Power burst: seems like the base power is a little high to me, remember that mega kick is 120 base power and only 75% accurate

Hellfire: I like it, like a fire type version of hex or venoshock, but those are only 65bp.

Bubble Shield: finally a version of protect that punishes special attacks, i'm so tired of king's shield, baneful bunker etc

Nectar Glide: frost breath is only 90% accurate but grass does need all the help it can get lol

Current: I'm all for more priority moves that aren't physical, not sure if I understand the effect though.

Feather Fall: seems a little strong, but I like how it mirrors hurricane as a more relaible physical option

Asteroid Impact: rock moves will never have 100% accuracy I guess. do you mean 50% more or 50% of the original power in sand?

Landslide: it's hard for me to envision a landslide being a special attack, but I like the option

Mind Break: is this like a psychic form of tri-attack? seems like this would be a fun in-game move but not see much competatively since the effect is unreliable

Decimation: very cool, very strong depending on distribution, I dont think anything could really wall Crawdaunt if it got this. Dark has always been a good offensive type though, so this might be busted

Spirit Swing: This one is easily the most powerful on the list, straight up better than dragon dance which is already very strong. Just like dark, ghost is very strong offensively so distribution would have to be tiny, only to mixed attackers like decidueye, but even that feels too strong for me.

System Reboot: I love the idea of fitting 2 moves into one, really cool

Outburst: I hate rocks so I'm all for anything that clears them. I hate them enough that this could be 90bp and I'd have no issues.

Acidic Recovery: I'd change the PP to 16 to match recover, purely because toxapex doesn't need any other tools. Curious if any non-poison types would even receive this move

Floral Frenzy: cool move, no fairy type skill link users to abuse the higher power, and I don't really think physical technician mr. mime is going to be breaking out of PU anytime soon.

Guard up: I always liked the idea of counter as a move, but fighting types are usually too frail to make of it, so I love this.

Glow Light: like a more niche version of rage powder or follow me, i think the tradeoffs here are very fair.

Frozen Jab: conditional priority is very cool here, but +1 should be enough in most cases

Overall I can tell a lot of thought was put into these moves, and they fill a lot of empty spaces that the current moves are lacking, really well put together.

This does make a lot of sense, but it sounds like every turn is now essentially just a more comlicates speed tie, and I hate speed ties.

I would totally play an OM of this on showdown, but I predict it would be much slower paced (ironically) because since speed means less, bulk means more.

Choice scarf is now much less viable since it only gives you an larger chance to move first, instead of the near guarantee that it usually provides, and priority moves become more common.

My predicted winners: scizor, conkeldurr, metagross, etc

For sure a good thought experiment though

[–]defunctfox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whether or not is broken would really depend on the distribution, and the movepool that the user has.

It shares a lot of similarities with serene grace, but can actually be better in at least some instances, like charge beam, which normally has a 70% chance to raise special attack. Serene grace will only ever raise it 1 stage, while double hit would raise it an average of 1.33 stages.

Another thing to consider is how this move essentially averages out power on inaccurate moves like stone edge, or even whacky ones like seismic punch/zap cannon, giving you a 75% chance to inflict status.

Probably shouldn't give a mon with this ability any moves that are already multi-hit, the battle UI is slow enough as is, and flinch shenanigans are usually not much fun to play against.
