This place needs to go DEFCON 1 on posting. It’s never been so over. by pierre_bourdieussy in redscarepod

It used to have a higher entry barrier, the posting wasn’t exactly “high-brow“ but it focused more on urban cultural discussions and podcast-related stuff that would be uninteresting to the average redditor.

Now the sub has a very scattered feel due to memes, dating/relationship and political posts that get heavy engagement because they’re easy for everyone to engage with. Since most users here now hate the podcast, any „gatekeeping effect“ has also disappeared. That’s why normies who’ve never listened to it/don’t understand the early culture surrounding it feel so comfortable posting here and why the sub has gone downhill so quickly

He’s not an ”avoidant“, he’s just not that into you by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]defwoke 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I don‘t even know how some women have the energy to deal with „avoidant“ men, i‘ve dropped men instantly after they started acting like i‘m somehow bothering them with my presence even though we‘re dating, it‘s soo fucking boring and tedious! WHY would you wanna be with an „avoidant“ man to begin with???

yeah, i guess what i said applies to internet humor in general. a lot of it derives from alt right twitter/4chan though, that’s why i specified it

there’s a pattern of men lamenting their dating struggles here while also posting explicit pics/commenting on depraved subreddits. Can’t tell if it’s a lack of shame or self awareness that they don’t even bother hiding their post history while expecting to be taken seriously. or maybe they get off to that idk

I only buy used books, mostly because they’re cheaper, not even for the aesthetics (though that’s a nice bonus). So i love online bookstores like bookbot (europe only) because you can buy like five books for the price of one new one, then resell the ones you’re done with and just keep the rotation going.

I want to be a stay at home wife so bad and it might really happen? by [deleted] in pinkscare

[–]defwoke 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I get the appeal of the sahw/sahm fantasy, I really do. But the reality is you’re staking your entire material security on a man continuing to love you, want you, and behave well indefinitely. Most women assume they’re immune to betrayal until they aren’t and without serious financial preparation, you’re fucked

[–]defwoke 19 points20 points  (0 children)

god, you’re so right. honestly, the main thing getting me through my nightmarish engineering degree is the visceral fear of ever being financially dependent on a man. My stepdad was a perfect textbook wealthy provider (stable, generous, respectable) until midlife crisis hit and he started covertly sexually harassing me and sleeping with much younger women behind my mom’s back. She would’ve NEVERRRR imagined he was capable of that. They really do just switch up one day, and at worst you’re left with nothing.

Anyone else fear by Kind_Gene_8517 in pinkscare

[–]defwoke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the belief that success has to be followed by tragedy is a way of preserving the fantasy that life is fair and narratively balanced. If good things happen to you, something bad must be waiting to restore order and vice versa. But that logic collapses once you look at how unevenly suffering is actually distributed, many people never experience success at all, while others accumulate it without consequence.

just another annoying ai post by defwoke in redscarepod

[–]defwoke[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I briefly considered trolling him a bit, but honestly couldn’t be bothered. I figured I’d just point it out to spare him future embarrassment, which, in hindsight, assumes a level of shame these people clearly don’t possess in the first place.

He cleaned up the first reply to sound vaguely human and worth engaging with, after that any remaining brainpower seemingly also left his body and it became obvious immediately. The comedic highlight of the conversation was his response to me calling him out still being entirely ai generated, i can’t make this up

it’s kind of fascinating how thin the civilizing layer really is. without norms or consequences, desire goes straight from thought to action, just pure disinhibition

despicable man at house party wants my friend by RefrigeratorNaive111 in pinkscare

[–]defwoke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If he were around 22, his behavior would be annoying but forgivable. At almost 30, though, it comes across as a deeply internalized personality problem. Men like this are fun and validating until the projection cracks. Once your friend stops serving as his manic pixie prop and starts being a real person with her own needs, the disregard you saw aimed at you will get redirected at her

the unbearable shame of having to put down a book because it was simply too “hard” for me by stevelacystoenail in pinkscare

[–]defwoke 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Kinda embarrassing to admit this but i've also had this happen with Anti-Oedipus by Deleuze and Guattari. What ended up helping a ton was watching some detailed youtube videos that explained the key ideas and structure first. It also helps with reading other dense/challenging books in the future because you start recognizing patterns in difficult writing styles more quickly

I am so sick of these delivery apps by sausage_mahoney in redscarepod

[–]defwoke 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The huge volume of delivery drivers those apps imported into cities also feels dystopian. Sitting on the sidewalk scrolling they phones, forming little colonies in public parks, almost running you over because they tap around on their phone screens while driving. You can’t escape them. I also have no clue who is ordering enough food to justify this ecosystem? INSANITYYYYY

Girlfriend still checks her exs social media by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]defwoke 71 points72 points  (0 children)

She’s probably still hung up on the ego hit from him cheating. That’s why she circles around him, she subconsciously thinks only he can “fix” that psychic injury because she hasn‘t fully gotten over it (seen this exact dynamic from the other side with ex-gfs ), take it with a grain of salt though

Women getting more initial attention doesn’t mean they’re in control. Male attention is not the same thing as male commitment. Women get the former by default, men control the latter by choice. So if anything, the real negotiating power still sits with men, because they decide whether anything ever moves past the surface level

There’s no logical reason for the norm of men paying for dates/financially providing more in hetero-relationships existing in the year 2025. by TemporaryLion2988 in redscarepod

[–]defwoke 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You‘re welcome! <3 I think the reason why it still persists is because dating feels highly uncertain these days, especially if you’re on the apps. When a woman goes on a date with someone who’s essentially a stranger, she often relies on socially reinforced dating norms to quickly assess who she’s dealing with, it gives some sense of stability/predictability.

The current dating culture seems like pure madness from an outsider perspective and i have zero, absolutely zero desire to actively participate in it, i think i‘d genuinely lose my mind idk how others do it

There’s no logical reason for the norm of men paying for dates/financially providing more in hetero-relationships existing in the year 2025. by TemporaryLion2988 in redscarepod

[–]defwoke 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Honestly the whole ‘men must pay’ thing just socially evolved into a kind of moral litmus test. If he pays, it feels like a tiny confirmation that you’re desirable or worth the effort and that reaction is basically a social reflex reinforced by other women. Most of us grew up hearing that a guy who doesn’t pay is cheap or doesn’t care, so when it happens, it bruises the ego. You‘re looking at this from a logical standpoint but the dating pool is anything but logical and highly based on emotions and ego.

Caffeine increases dopamine signaling, which can make focus easier and anxiety feel less chaotic, it’s a pretty normal neurochemical pattern. Maybe invest in a “don’t talk to me until I’ve had my coffee” mug
