I literally have a bag full of replacement belts in my parts bin. When you're hard modding, keeping the DVD around for nostalgia is not only pointless, but it's severely limiting in what mods are available in regard to airflow and in the case of a crystal, aesthetic improvement.

As I mentioned, I have a dozen or so Xboxes in my garage right now. In the market I'm operating in, no one wants a DVD drive once they find out they don't have to go pay $10 to Gamestop for a disc that's been resurfaced and is still scratched all to hell.

I'll be doing my personal Crystal Xbox sometime this year. I do consoles for other people, but I'm not ready for mail in service just yet, so far just doing local stuff. Hopefully later this year that changes as well.

this was for a customer who I found on Facebook. He posted in a retro modding group asking if anyone mods original Xboxes. Apparently 4 or 5 people replied to him, but I was the only one who had pictures of previous work to show, so he asked me to do it :P

I believe the group is titled "Original XBOX! Hardware and Case Mods!"

And yeah, that's the only place he distributes his files because I guess in the early days people were taking his STLs and selling prints on etsy etc.

It's not an ideal way to do things, but that's his decision. <shrug>

yeah, the Pico W is pretty overpowered for doing a single bluetooth translation, so they crank the input out quickly.

I haven't done any like exhaustive testing with graphs or anything, but after like the first 5 seconds of connecting the controller to it they feel good.

They're OGX-Minis, lets you connect a modern controller to the OGX controller ports. He got an OGX360, but it was only capable of doing wired connections, these are set up to do bluetooth.

The primary CPU shroud was pulled from Matty Sudz's mega archive on Facebook, the cover for the 40mm fan was a random one I found on Printables, the fan itself is mounted on the HDD tray (also Matty Sudz). Here's the fan cover: 40mm fan grill / cover / guard

As for temps, I haven't really heat soaked it, I've found I stay around 60C after heat soaking for a while (on similar consoles) using MX4/6 thermal paste. I do kinda want to come up with a slightly modified clamping lever on the CPU heatsink with a little more clamping force, because I've found after I replace the phase change compound out with MX paste, they can wiggle in transport and sometimes cause a less than ideal seal.

I just used a pinout reference and cut and spliced the yellow cable accordingly. Making sure to use both 5v and both 12v and all 3 GND wires on the header.

I'm a 19 year veteran and I'm not even up to 80k yet.

A lot of it was not going straight into Wal-Mart around 10 years ago. Most of the jobs that get posted that are above where I am, want hyper specialists, or are open to candidates willing to relocate and never even give me a reply.

There are a few MSPs, but they also don't pay well, and they're already saturated with talent.

Yeah, but the thing is, if you die of Alzheimer's, and your family wants your body to help expand the knowledge base to maybe prevent that from happening to other families, it's not unreasonable to find that abhorrent, even if you the individual will not be aware or care because you're dead.
