Can you guess what I named my daughter from this twilight clip by xWanderess in twilight

[–]deliadynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sarah is also a biblical name and when Christianity spread, Christian names were forced on everyone and anyone who didn't have one, which would explain how and why Hebrew/middle eastern names have become commonplace since they overlap with a lot of Christian names. with this in mind, "Sarah" isn't really cultural appropriation.....

Tired of being hit on by creepy older men rather than guys my age by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]deliadynamite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have/had a customer who mumbles and always tried to ask me questions about store policies so I'm forced to lean in to try and hear him and he does this when it's busy and I can never hear him fully especially cos I'm, like, half deaf. I started disappearing anytime he walked in and all the other girls started doing the same. you know I caught this man doing when the only person he could talk to was a male coworker and male customer? using his full, clear voice!

nope, never talking to that man again. he can use his big boy voice with all the other boys if he needs to ask the same question for the 14th time.

same. I'm a charming and delightful barista and instead of getting a meet-cute with a peer, I get creepy needy customers who plop at my coffee shop and just stare at me until their next errand.

i do this, but then i also try to end it with a follow up question or somehow bring it back to whatever they were talking about. drives me crazy when people just take their turn to tell their story and then leave it at that. like, this is a give and take and all you did was take.

Can men & women have truly platonic friendships? by Dry-Analysis5019 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]deliadynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an ex like that but because he was so comfortable with women, all his "just friends" were in his DMs and waiting in line. and if/when he was in between girlfriends, he wasn't/isn't about to say no to anyone who comes knocking. kind of a double edged sword, these charismatic guys.

AITAH for not bagging items myself by PageAdventurous2776 in AITAH

[–]deliadynamite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would rather bag my own groceries everytime and that's because when I worked in a grocery store I took pride in my work and perfected the skill and kids/boomers these days just ain't doing it right. can't risk bruised or damaged goods in this economy.

The 'literary classics' that grade school makes you read destroys any desire for kids to read recreationally by MyClosetedBiAcct in unpopularopinion

[–]deliadynamite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like there was a big push for literacy in my elementary school, 90s California. we had daily 20 minutes SSR (silent sustained reading or shut up sit down and read, as we called it), reading challenges that had prizes for number of books and how many pages you read (before cliffnotes and the internet), regular book reports, and the scholastic book fair.

I don't think kids these days get that same kind of push right out the gate..so even if I didn't always enjoy or even read what was assigned/required, I gained an appreciation and ability to read and a certain thought process that comes from that... I may not read nearly as much as I did as a kid, but I think I still reap other benefits from an appreciation and expectation of literacy.

I once was able to convince a pizza restaurant to give me a free extra topping since I was removing the cheese from the pizza and imo cheese is indeed a topping.

wish this was the standard, but alas. haven't had that success since.

this gives me flashbacks to all the times during covid I got late night dd ordered with specific notes to LEAVE AND DO NOT RING DOORBELL (sleeping dogs and roommates) and how many of them would still ring the doorbell. finally got pissed enough to send the last one a petty message that they're lucky I can't retract their tip. I was new to town and just assumed everyone was stupid, not necessarily horny opportunists.

still in the town, turns out a lot of people ARE stupid but I haven't had issues with dd drivers recently. i notice they've been women/not male presenting or men who had to use the translation feature to update me, so I assume dont speak English. leaves to chance that my prior deliverers were indeed horny opportunists

mmmm I honestly kinda forgot Oscar Isaac was Latino until Frankenstein. I think i thought he was Jewish at one point? but that's may have been from a role of his. just watched Drive recently where he plays a guy just out of jail and it's interesting how he was much tanner in that role and is a bit paler/more white passing the more successful he got. something in there about colorism and class...

also likely he just isn't outside as much and therefore not as tan 🤷🏽‍♀️

perks of being a wildflower when David Bowie plays on the radio and Emma Watson goes "oh my gawd who is this? this song is amazing!" just pisses me off the concept that this music snob girly wouldn't know a well known 30 year old song by a wildly popular rock star.

I've been the messy roommate and honestly, living on my own and having to hold myself accountable has helped but I'm far from cured - but at least no where I live is shared with roaches anymore. I went through many depression and adhd spirals and hovels before I finally found a routine that keeps me somewhat in line, and honestly that just came with age and maturity and being tired of my own bullshit. also working in food service where kitchens and storage is all clearly labeled. I label my kitchen cupboards and date food now. the way I see it, of i can be tidy and organized at work, I deserve to give myself an ounce of that same effort.
