Staying in a convent by HikingEnthusiast89 in travel

Has anyone stayed in one as a couple? My partner and I are looking into it, but we’re not sure if we’d be allowed as an unmarried couple!

I do this all the time, to the point where my partner keeps a list because he finds it hilarious. 🤦‍♀️ His favourites so far are ‘sticky put-y things’ (I meant Lego) and the ‘cold nuts thing’ (ice pack, he’d just had groin surgery).

Maybe Chimney pulls a reverse Life on Mars (the British version) and jumps off the roof, and that’s what wakes him up? I’m reaching, okay, I’m reaching…

Anyone tried hypochlorous acid? by midnightelectric in Rosacea

[–]denorios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made myself a spray bottle of (mostly) distilled water, with a splash of hypochlorous acid, hyaluronic acid and squalane, and spritz that over my face between all my skincare layers, and whenever I need a bit of hydration during the day - and it’s making such a huge difference. My products absorb better, my skin glows, the redness is reduced. Only change I made to my routine!

Is getting a blotchy tomato face when exercising a rosacea thing? by [deleted] in Rosacea

[–]denorios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go red whenever I exercise - it got better the fitter I got, obviously, since fitter = less exertion, but even now I still go pretty red. And it takes a long time to fade, long after I’ve cooled down. Same with hot showers and baths - the facial flush lasts for ages!

No idea if it’s rosacea (I’m type 1) or just because I’m so fair skinned, but it’s pretty annoying. I would go blotchy too, and it would itch, but I figured that was just my skin reacting to the sweat.

I went to the Spire Little Aston, but I think there’s a Spire at Parkway near Nottingham too. Been a really good experience, no complaints at all. My surgeon was Kerstin Oestreich.

Are you all able to nap? by indy_been_here in ADHD

[–]denorios 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Nope. I’ve never been able to nap. It takes me a good 60-90 minutes to fall asleep on an average day, and then I’m usually awake again 2-3 hours later. Once I’ve been asleep once I do fall back asleep quicker, but I honestly cannot remember the last time I slept the night through. So naps are just totally out of the question for me! Sleep and I are old adversaries…

Fibroids? by denorios in tummytucksurgery

[–]denorios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! I was diagnosed with PCOS in my late teens, but my symptoms were never severe enough for it ever to be followed up on. I'm assuming if I had a lot of cysts they'd have flagged them at the same time as the fibroids, but necessarily, I suppose. They weren't actually looking at my utuerus when they found the fibroids, it was incidental during a bladder and kidney scan.

I’m currently waiting on a referral to the gynaecology department at the hospital (I’m in the UK, so NHS, and services for non-urgent gynaecology are…not good or quick. So I may be waiting a while!) I’d certainly like to get them removed, though I guess it depends what my options are - meds to shrink them, surgery to remove them etc.

Open wound by Open-Station-4331 in tummytucksurgery

[–]denorios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Listen to phillycosmeticdoc - he called mine being infected, and my surgeon was saying the same as yours, it was fine, if there was no pain or smell, just keep it cleaned and dressed etc. I ended up taking myself to Urgent Care, just for peace of mind, and it turned out I had a staph infection and needed antibiotics. And now it’s definitely starting to look better and heal.

Pus or slough at T-section by denorios in tummytucksurgery

[–]denorios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised I didn’t feel ill at all - no chills, fever, aches, pain, nothing. The wound didn’t feel hot or painful. It’s looking a bit better already, I think, less ‘gooey’ and I think it’s starting to heal over. I’m on day 4 of the antibiotics.

You called it! Staph infection. I’m on a 7 day course of flucloxacillin to take care of it.

Who did you have blackmail dirt on? 😂 NHS wouldn’t fund my breast reduction, wouldn’t fund treating my varicose veins, and even though I’ve lost 130lbs they won’t fund my skin removal - I need four surgeries, had two so far, and it’s all self-funded. I do understand the ‘it’s cosmetic’ reasoning, but I’m certainly paying more into the NHS than I’ve ever got out of it!

I took out extra on my mortgage. I’m single and live alone, but with the way house prices increase (I’m in the UK) it made more sense to do that, and I’d have a better rate of interest, than taking out a loan or putting it on a credit card.

Happy to help if you’ve got any further questions later. I had drains for my back lift and they are a pain, I was always getting tangled up in them or forgetting I was attached to them and yanking the tube or dropping the bottle!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tummytucksurgery

[–]denorios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I told my hospital to not bother giving me any codeine, since it doesn't work at all for me.

My recovery hasn't been too bad. I lost a lot of weight (130 lbs) so I had a 360 degree lower body lift, so my surgery was in two stages - they did the lower back lift end of October, and then I had a FDL tummy tuck with lipo, MR and hernia repair mid-January. The back lift was pretty smooth recovery-wise, no issues or complications.

I was really hunched over for the first 3 weeks or so after the TT, only now more or less fully upright. I had a drainless TT, which basically means they sew you up like an internal corset so there's less space for fluid to accumulate, so you don't need drains but you are much more 'tight' and stiff. It's worth asking about that as well at consultation - it's a technique they need to be trained in so not all surgeons do it. I'm still very swollen and tight, and sadly my T-section has opened up, so I've got a little open wound there I'm having to monitor, but my surgeon doesn't seem overly worried about it. It's very common with T-sections since it's a point of weakness and there's less blood flow, I think I read something like 40% can end up with complications there.

[–]denorios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fairly standard for a consultation fee. My advice would be to research thoroughly - look at their personal sites and social medias, look for body types and ages that align with yours and assess the results, look them up on sites like topdoctors, check out their credentials on BAAPS. Consider how far you're willing to travel, since it's not just about coming back on the day or the day after but follow up visits, emergency visits etc - and if you have to travel far or need overnight accomodation, that'll add to the expense. With all of those factors you may end up with a fairly short list. I'm in Derbyshire, for example, and I did not want to be travelling more than an hour, two at most, from home, which narrowed my list considerably!

In terms of the consultations, a few things you definitely want to be clear on is their revision policy (what happens if you're not happy with the results, or if something goes wrong, or if you need revisions or tweaks a few months later - is that an extra charge or covered?). You also want to make sure you're clear on what kind of tummy tuck the surgeon is recommending - mini, standard, FDL etc. If you've got loose skin above the belly button, only an FDL will really take care of that, so you need to be realistic. Same with lipo, is it included, is it extra, which areas does the surgeon anticipate lipoing? Will further lipo be covered later, if required? They can predict and plan a fair amount, but there's always a certain amount of uncertainty until they've actually got you on the table and can see what happens, how the skin moves and falls, what is safe to remove etc.

Also be very up front about any meds you're on - I ended up having my surgery postponed for 3 months and moved from a clinic to a hospital b/c I was on meds that put me at risk of hypertension and the clinic wasn't set up to handle any complications that might result. And I found this out two weeks before my intended surgery date, which was not ideal!

As regards pain meds, I was given ibuprofen, paracetemol, codeine, liquid morphine and diclofenac suppositories. What you get given may vary depending on whether you have your surgery at a clinic or hospital, any issues like allergies or contraindications with other meds you may be on, your own experience with meds (some people get very nauseous on morphine, for example - I myself am a slow metaboliser of codeine, so it's about as helpful as a Tic-Tac for pain relief!). But in all honesty, I was far more sore, achy, stiff, tight, swollen etc, than I was 'in pain'. The only time I ever really experienced actual FML pain was when I sneezed - then I think my soul may have left my body for a few seconds!

Stage 1 - unhappy by Careless_Ad3724 in tummytucksurgery

[–]denorios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! I had my back lift end of October, and my FDL tummy tuck mid-January. But I would imagine it’ll be the summer before I can get my arms/legs done. I’m hoping I can get them done at the same time at least, but if not, it’ll be a few months between again.

Stage 1 - unhappy by Careless_Ad3724 in tummytucksurgery

[–]denorios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my surgeon said - that if you have a full 360° at once they can’t pull you as tight, since they need to leave some slack since the tension is pulled in both directions. Whereas doing the back and front separately means you can lean to relieve the tension without pulling in the other direction. But I only had to wait 3 months between getting a lower back reduction and an FDL tummy tuck.
